One of my old projects, that involved time in CA and MI in Ron’s neighborhood, was a 5.1 MW generator system. It utilized 3 16 cylinder EMD Diesel engines, each 1.7 MW. These are train engines. Just a small backup generator system.

Good morning,
temp is 37 °F and headed to 41. Wind SW 14 mph. Periods of drizzle. A 'special' weather statement is in effect.

5:12 AM EST Tuesday 26 November 2019
Special weather statement in effect for:

North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
West Nipissing - French River

Snow with risk of freezing rain is expected Wednesday.

A developing low pressure system over Colorado is expected to track over Lake Huron and Georgian Bay late Wednesday. Snow is expected to develop Wednesday morning and continue into Wednesday evening. The snow may be mixed with rain Wednesday afternoon. There is also the risk of freezing rain.

Total snowfall amounts near 15 cm (6") are possible, especially from Temiscaming to Marten River Provincial Park. Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm (2-4") are likely near Lake Nipissing.

There remains some uncertainty regarding the exact track of this system. This statement may be upgraded to a snowfall or freezing rain warning as the track of this low becomes more certain.
Tomorrow will be interesting.

Today is a conserve energy day, in preparation for snow plowing tomorrow.

Belated Happy Birthday, David.
Your two 'supervisors' are probably waiting until your back is turned to P on the genny.:D

Have a good day all

Good morning! 64˚ cloudy. Today we install trail signs. Not the new trails - some of the older trails. The new trails will be finished and ready for signs in the spring.
Got some seat time yesterday leveling out the ground where the waterlines were buried in the garden.

BEF:thumbsup: getting off meds.

Good Morning!!!! 42F @ 5:15AM. Showers early, then becoming windy with a steady rain for the afternoon. High 48F. SE winds at 5 to 10 mph, increasing to 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall around a half an inch. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

Lots of folks go to the Big Texan to try eating that monster steak, but few get the meal free because you also have to eat all the sides and rolls, too. I've never eaten there, but the locals told me the rest of the food on the menu isn't all that great. Outside Amarillo is the Cadillac Ranch, just west of the Amarillo town line, is said to be something to see, but on all those Amarillo business trips, I never had the time to go look. It would make a great photo op here on GM, Drew (hint, hint).

Busy day yesterday, raking, spreading decomposed granite, then sprinkling Preen on about half of it. Used all I had, and with the wind blowing, no telling how even the coverage was, as the grains were the same color as the DG. Used the landscape rake on the back of the tractor to clean up the stubble on what used to be lawn out back, made very short work of that. Then put the rest of the DG down with the FEL, raked it out by hand, and called it good enough. Home Depot doesn't stock the big bags of Preen, but I have a two and a half gallon jug of RM43 I'm gonna try to spray at first light, as rain is due in by eleven o'clock and it needs two hours before it's rain safe.

Also need to move a pallet of firewood into the garage before it starts raining; there's rain in the 10-day forecast every day except Thursday and Friday. Looks like Mother Nature's gonna try to play catch up.

UPDATE:
Latest forecast is for a couple inches of snow down to 800' elevation:shocked:!

And health officials say influenza has arrived in the county; good thing I got my flu shot last Thursday!

43°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 60° today with rain expected most of the day. Might get some severe storms this evening, and tomorrow is supposed to be über-windy (40-50mph).

Around here, we call that "the soup truck," Eric. It's definitely no fun being downwind of it on a hot day.

Just east of Amarillo is also the Volkswagen Ranch, Drew. Same concept, but with VW Beetles. We stumbled upon it completely by chance on our return trip from The Canyon in 2011.

I looked that up Paul, the Slug Bug ranch. Absolutely, I'll take pics of both.

Been there, had a very good steak dinner; but didn't try the monster steak. And the mountain oysters were a fine appetizer, too. Of course it was many years ago when we were there.

Bird, I'll let you be the expert on mountain oysters, thank you...
I'm going to go there just to go there, and take pictures, but will not order that big steak.
I can eat maybe 6 oz. of steak before I get stuffed.

speaking of beef, do you know that right after Thanksgiving is a huge heart attack time due to overeating and too much salt intake, the salt apparently
being the worst problem. I love that stuffing but read the label on amount of sodium. No wonder it tastes good...

off to put up xmas lights.

We ate at big Texan and loved it. Great steak. That was my destination to see there.
Drove by Cadillac ranch, got a decent pic from the westbound lane.

Yea, look out, I’m off my meds.

Been off the strong codine pain meds a long time. Never even took any from the last bottle. But I stopped the gabapentin when I noticed I wasn’t having much finger pain. I weaned myself down. Now what to do with a bottle of 500. I still get pain in the feet if I’m on them a lot.

Drew, That 5.1 MW diesel plant was added to an exact copy, to make a 10.2 MW plant. But I only did the 2nd set in my project. I’ll post a picture when I find one.

69°F and .13 inches rain

Trucking company expected about 8:30 to pick up big generator to ship to Maui.
I need to get my old Oldback system on a pallet, make it easier to move around.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

yes, funny thing that place even has an associated rv park which runs a limo into the restaurant.
I'm staying at another place but clearly this is quite the institution.
Thanks RNG. I'll print that out.

David that is the biggest gen I've ever seen. The replacement must take up half that space.
You have some excellent helpers/supervisors there.

A warm 68 today, 70 tomorrow. After seeing urology doc this morning, will be a good day to be outside.
going to put up solar powered xmas lights today at end of lane. Folks always slow down to look.
For now, nice cup of coffee and a hot shower awaits.

and a better barn pic

We built hundreds of offshore O/G exploration rigs with EMD 645 and 710 series engine power plants. Most were 6-8 of the turbocharged 16 or 20 cylinder engines with AC alternators and 1 or 2 of the 8 or 12 cylinder engines for emergency generators.

Our very early "electric" rigs used EMD engines with DC generators connected to EMD traction motors to power the drawworks, mud pumps, and rotary table. The traction motors had shunt fields that you adjusted to vary motor speed.

In the late 1960's our company developed the very first SCR drives for electric rigs so the engines incorporated AC alternators. The SCR drive converted AC to DC for the traction motors.

23F this morning.. grand daughter had doc appt yesterday, they suspect the antibiotic she took for double ear infection was the cause of the itching and hives. Smart doc looked up the last time she had hives and it was right after the same antibiotic.. she has some Zertec now for itching.. her hives are gone today, still some itching. They made a note in her records so they don't use that antibiotic again.

Took the advice of TBN members and got some Stabil marine 360 and treated the fuel in the ZT mower, snowblower and generator. Seafoam and Lucas injector cleaner had been working fine, but snowblower had some issues this year so decided to try the Stabil.
