Ted- Brogen tried to join me in the downstairs GR queen size bed where I am currently sleeping and we both do not fit. I only outweigh him by ~15#'s, but I ruled the bed. That LR floor is a concrete slab. I am told by one of the guys who built this place that it is "insulated." This is a small inbred community; the locals know more about this place and its history than I. I suspect a lot of the longterm locals have webbed feet. I'll never know for certain, everyone here wears workbooks excepting the "groovers."

Something to consider as we age.

RonJH- Thanks for the link. :( Unless we fence this place in for a decent dog run with easy in/out and with gates wide enough tp allow for tractor travel Brogen may be our last St. B. rescue. Right now I am stymied as to where to build the fence and fencing due to our home's design and surrounding space. The "Tree Plan" is part of opening up space. I was thinking about German Shepherd rescues again; ideally a retired service animal, but Wifey may not be that happy about getting another shedding, drooling dog. My suggestions about English Bull Mastiffs was not received too well.

I am happy to read about your wife's OT. "OK" is far better than "Not OK." My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for your wife, you, and family.

I have, for at least two years, had a cottontail rabbit living under our back deck. She produced one litter and I saw them in the yard when they were less than half size, but then they all disappeared. However, Miss Bunny has sat there by the deck every morning for a long time, and I usually walk out there and talk to her. She would just sit there and look at me as long as I stayed 5 or 6 feet from her. If I got closer, she'd slowly get up and go under the deck. However, I guess she's gone to bunny heaven. My next door neighbor has had a pile of shrub and bush clippings in what used to be a big concrete fire pit for roasting hot dogs and such by the prior owner. It had gotten to be a pretty big pile and his son recently moved in with him and did some more pruning, checked with the city, then burned all that brush; an all day and most of the night job. My neighbor told me his son then found the remains of what he thought was a rabbit. Apparently Miss Bunny had a second home in that brush pile.

It was 51°F this morning a very foggy. Fog got worse thru the morning and just now b3ginning to clear up. Forecast indicates 72° F today and high 70's next three days. Hope the higher temperatures will help dry this place out a bit but, there's also some rain in our forecast.

I got little done on my own projects yesterday. One of my neighbors called late morning and said he had gotten his pickup stuck, in deep mud, while he was out checking his hog traps. The location was a bit over 5 miles from my place so ....... 40 minutes down on my 100 HP tractor, 10 minutes to hook up and pull him out, then 40 minutes back.

Got back and got a call from the neighbor, that I had pulled old fence posts out for last week. He asked if I could hook up my 3-point chain harrow and make a few passes down the old fence line before he started drilling his new fence posts.

By the time that was over, I'd missed lunch (fat boys don't like missing meals ) and it was time to feed livestock.

Hoping for an excellent Friday Eve for everyone.

Prayers to all.

30°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 39° today. Expecting some manner of precipitation today, but the weather voice wasn't sure in what form it would arrive.

Last Spring, I found the skeletal remains of several rabbits of varying size under my rotary cutter, Bird. Not sure why they died. Not many predators would squeeze under there and eat them in place.

".... By the time that was over, I'd missed lunch (fat boys don't like missing meals Good morning!!!!) and it was time to feed livestock."- Rick
Sorry to read about your lunch. No good deed goes unpunished. I wish that you were my neighbor;)

I occasionally find remains during the dog walks or signs of struggle left in the snow. Sometimes I can figure out what it was and/or what happened; but usually not, leaving a mystery.

All our rural/country friends around here are plagued with rabbits, while they have been a rare sight or track here. I/We have been trying to encourage rabbits back into our property with brush pile rabbitats and letting natural processes create thickets for 30 years w/o success. I am assuming predation is the reason. This year we seem to have a frequent visitor. We'll see.

"Mother rabbit will eat there unhealthy young...dang weasel will kill for fun."- Thomas. That would be my guess.

Counting birds here consistently gives me the impression of some degree of flock consistencies and specie #'s based on the compiled data. Turkeys = 24, Mourning Doves = 24/25(?) Blue Jays (this year) = 4, juncoes = 3; chickadees = 8; tree sparrow =1(?), tufted titmice = 4, and lots of specie pairings. Missing #'s can give me a momentary cause for concern. This year some numbers are down and we are missing a couple of species that were historically frequent fliers here like Gold finches, purple finches, pine siskins, rose breasted grosbeaks, song/white throated/fox/chipping sparrows, etc. Every year is different.

Wow! Two of my favorites! That musta been one heck of a concert! They don't make 'em like that any more, do they?

I got to see Santana at a small auditorium on the Ohio State campus back in '77 or '78. Walked there, had third center seats, could see the beads of sweat on Carloss' forehead. I'm surprised I still remember it, but it was a goose bump moment...
I went to some country bars in germany that played English country music. The bars were small and the stage was small. I sat beside the stage, and would hand their guitars up to them, they didnt have room to keep them onstage.

Worked outside until a line of high clouds and cold wind moved in, I closed the garage doors and worked inside for a while.
Ellen has been sick with a migraine most of the day, finally getting better now.

Randy, did something at the flower show set Ellen off? A Peruvian headache flower...

Mighty long day. Started at 4:30am in the garden shed, cutting up taters, then did a difficult job I had been putting off, namely
cleaning the overgrown strawberries out of the raised garden near my house and then planting snow peas and a mishmash of left over potatoes from last year in there, including a new batch of blue potatoes. It took me longer to dig out those strawberries than it did the whole rest of the job. Talk about rhizomes, wound up having to shovel out every square inch. The "patch" had crept outside of its area, and had taken over half of the rest of the garden, plus sent runners everywhere. Happy plants for sure. Couldn't bear to throw them all out, so I replanted a lot of them up in the other garden, just for variety.

then I ended the day hilling the potato field. Little wet, would be better drier but no wetter than last year this time. Ground is so soft I don't even need a furrow, just push the potato down into the soil. Little Massey ran great, used 4wd though probably didn't have to, but good to run the gears once in a while.

Took a long hot shower when done, hot water felt good on aches. Tomorrow morning is garden club and then rain again in the afternoon, so I was hustling to make some progress today. Done, but I'm tuckered out.

Jay, I think you should just get a small pony. Probably smaller than Brogen...:D

thanks PJ. For hilling would have worked better without side tines, but too hard for me to take on and off.
I think I'm going to give it one more pass tomorrow afternoon before the rain comes, try to fluff it a bit more, though with rain coming,
not sure what that accomplishes other than fun seat time.
