Drew, not all returns are financial. If/when the time comes to sell that property, the shop building will be an attractive incentive to most buyers, though I have to agree with the agent that you won't get most of the construction costs back. But while you're still there your equipment will certainly benefit from being stored in the structure, and will be much easier to access and use due to the concrete floor. If you'll also be using it as a work space, that's added benefit. I'm in a similar position, and consider $60K a good investment for the (hopefully) 15 years of use I'll be able to get, probably longer since only the good die young. Besides, if a building is what you really want, you'll kick yourself in the hind end every time you walk into a carport, wishing you'd built your heart's desire instead of what made good business sense.
Don it sounds like Whipper is living up to her name. Glad the snake didn't land on your head! Good to see your wife getting back into the kitchen, but I sure hope that swelling goes down!
Dave, good you had a doctor look at that finger; I'm no doctor but the outcome may have been different if you'd gone there right away while the damaged portion was still alive. FWIW, this month Consumer Reports has a long article about antibiotic over use leading to unstoppable super bugs. Much blame was put on broad spectrum antibiotics. Interesting reading, but it's a different story when you're the one with the injury or disease looking for the best possible outcome, isn't it?
Farmer, that's a LOT of chickens. No wonder you're always so busy!
Work at the dealer yesterday didn't take as long as my errands, but I still managed to spend an hour or so chatting with my parts guy and another rider and his ten year old son passing through on their way to the coast. They'd come from Billings, taking their time and a day or so more than I did, and were on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. They had an afternoon of 100+ temps to ride through before they reached their motel, so I told them about the old desert rat trick of wetting down their hair and shirts to take advantage of evaporative cooling. Hope it works for them. I ordered brake parts and an engine seal for the Kbike, but was asked to determine if I need just a rebuild kit for the master cylinder or the whole replacement part. Usually they don't mind taking unused parts back for a refund, but these are old enough that they'd probably sit in the shelf for a while. So I'll go out into the shop in a few minutes and take the one on the bike apart to see if it's rebuildable, rather than ordering both and returning the unused one.
TGIF gang! Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
