1°F this morning with clear skies, going up to 27° today. Brrrr!!! Supposed to be around 40° here the rest of the week.

Boss sent everyone home early Friday, as a freezing rain event popped up right before the evening drive time. What a mess. People in the St. Louis area don't drive well on dry pavement. Throw in some frozen precip and ... well ... I left work at 4:30, and finally got home at 9:50. Kind of set the tone for the whole weekend for me, unfortunately. I got a whole lot of nothing done.

Good morning again. I decided to get another "sleep" in before Christmas and since the temperature fell to 21˚ and it was still dark a little 6-8 am nap was nice. (after waking up at 3am to feed the fire and animals)

Up and to work now, one of my trees is blocking the county road after it was blown over by the wind. It looks like someone went in the ditch going around it and the some one drug it so it only half blocks the road. It's a cedar tree so no firewood to harvest.

The "LOW AIR" symbol on my truck came on, I thought I had a flat but all tires were 28 psi (supposed to be 35psi). I guess the 60˚ drop in temperature in a day will do that to tire pressure.

Good Morning! 36F @ 7:00AM. Partly cloudy. High 52F. Winds light and variable.

Chilly here this AM, both inside and out. Down to 65F in the house, and I woke up with cold ears. Wood stove is taking its time firing up, and I'm thinking a hot cuppa tea would be nice with breakfast this morning. But at least there's no snow on the ground, and the morning sky is full of pink tinged clouds and lots of blue. Slight chance of showers tomorrow, but it looks like Friday before any real rain enters the forecast. But clearing for Christmas.

And speaking of Christmas, it just wouldn't be Christmas without screening "A Christmas Story", which I did last night. Funny how it hits so many themes from my own childhood, even though I came along twenty years after the time of the story. 'Cept I never had a Red Ryder, and never even came close to shootin' my eye out.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start!

Thanks Ed, I left my wife at the hospital with her brother, she was going over his charts,(computer screen), and his doctor was rolling his eyes. I left the 2 docs to fight it out and told Richard he was in good hands. :D

70 yesterday, 30 today, big uptake. Buppies, it all sounds good except the cold wet spring.

What more could a patient ask for. Other than not being sick. :cloud9:

15 here this morning, warming trend next few days, winds to 40mph. Tuesday it is supposed to be 38F so may loose our snow.

Local high end steak house had a special yesterday (using up the cuts that don't make their perfect standards). Wife and I enjoyed nice steaks, split salad and desert, still ate too much. It was very good and we agreed we would go back.

It's funny Ron, I have 6-7 friends that are doctors and only 2 of them I met through my wife's practice. The others were when I was into off shore boats, old cars and that kind of stuff. I have lawyer friends, too. I find it works out better to have friends with more money and connections than me. That way I'm mooching off them instead of the other way around! :D

69°F and no rain since midnight but 2.33 inches yesterday.

Very good time at neighbors yesterday.
Wife has ENT appoint this afternoon in Hilo, her first. She has an ear that blocks from time to time
Be safe
Have a great day

-4 on the shiverometer this morning. Should warm up to double digits (15 or so) for the drive home. Should be in Tennessee instead if Michigan. I am getting too old for this Winter Wonderland.

Well I can attest that the newer EMG machines pack quite a wallop. I was dancing this morning,
"now this might be a little strong" A master of understatement.
"You have a tendon here and we have to power through it." Power to the People. Oh yeah.
When they test an area that hurts by shocking it quite a few times, well I was glad I was done.
And yes, they have now papered their files that there is a huge blockage between my elbow and my hand, and nothing to do about it.
but at least it should now qualify me for a shot of some cortical steroids, etc in my elbow. Life goes on.

Now I was just having fun with Lord Salop. I just didn't think he'd want to put his sweet old Fergie up against those Continental speed machines.
something tells me those old Perkins diesels had a bit lower output than a comparable Porsche, and for sure a Lamborghini.

There was a time when Raymond Loewy, the car designer that made the beautiful Studebaker models, also designed Allis Chalmers, Minneapolis Moline, Oliver, Farmall, Deere and I think a few other tractor makes sheet metal. Rounded like the Porsche, aerodynamic which is pretty silly when you consider how fast tractors go, but it sure looks nice...
Probably good in a blueberry farm or a orchard...but good looking tractors, they had style. Some form with function vs all function. Maybe the original Euro look.
I wonder if Loewy was looking at Porsche designs for inspiration.

It would be fun to start a thread
The Best Looking Tractor
not sure many modern ones would qualify...
how about something unique like the Anteater International?
IH-3588 Tractor
The Thunderbird or Lincoln Continental of tractors...super long hood, big chrome stack, lots of power, what more could a guy want

I saw 5 or 6 snow flakes today so I have had enough snow for this winter. Was talking to mom this evening and talked about the old guys that worked in the sawmill when I was little. They were huge men and moved logs around by hand and can't hooks. I asked one how he got so strong and he said when he was young he put a barrel by the back door and in the morning he picked it up and in the evening when he got home he put a rock in it the size of his fist and picked it up again. He said that when the barrel was full of rocks he could still pick it up. Mom had been told that if you picked up a calf every day that you could still pick it up when it was bigger. She did not know how big. Any of you ever heard of this and do any of you know if it is true. I have been told about the barrel by 3 or 4 men and they were all huge. Have a good night Ed

Good evening all. 14F again this morning, mostly clear and near calm wind. Winds did not pick up much, got some high thin clouds and 36F for the high. Leaf pick up today was main chore, picked up 7 bags so far. only 1 small area of heavy coverage left and 1/2 the lawn with light to moderate coverage + bike ride tomorrow. Trip to SIL Thursday.

.68 inches on the rain gauge, though I think the manual gauges will both show over an inch. Rain finally stopped overnight, today is cold and gray. 32 going up to 41. I might split some wood this afternoon if the sun comes out but otherwise will wait until it warms up a bit later this week.

A few degrees above freezing and again little wind. All set to change tomorrow with some rougher stuff coming at us from over the Atlantic, so I want to make the most of it today.

I ought to treat my Stihl to a new chain and make a start on cleaning up from the trees that were cut down last week, especially the ash that had to be felled onto a neighbors field. The tree surgeons ringed me the main stem, so I only have to cut branches and deal with the brash. I haven't replaced the drive sprocket yet, despite going through a few chains. Always makes me feel guilty as they recommend changing after every couple of chains - perhaps next year :ashamed:.

We don't grow much cedar wood here, making it a quite expensive timber, however it is highly regarded for it's durability. Can you make something from it in a future project ?
