76F and partly sunny @ 09:30 ... high predicted to be 84F with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms. No rain since midnight.

Hummers have become regular visitors at the feeder.

Got most of lawn mowed around the house yesterday afternoon after moving more wood chips and rounds, then ran down to the Rural King store in Wooster. First time I had been to the place ... looks to be an older store, kinda disorganized ... but they were supposedly in the midst of remodeling.

Compared to TSC, they have them beat on merchandise selection (tons of inventory) and price ... not to mention their website search function actually works.

Tried searching TSC's website yesterday for "hydraulic cylinder" ... website returns everything but hydraulic cylinders ... :confused2: ... complete joke.

I'm wondering if it might be due to the big fires burning south of here. The area around Clearlake, California is getting it again; two huge fires hit the area just last year and many people burnt out by the current one were also devastated in one of the previous two. The little town of Lower Lake was severely damaged, and the fire is now approaching the much larger town of Clearlake itself.

RNG, saw on news that they caught the azzhat suspected of starting that fire? Wonder if he started the one last year in same area.

Think he need a swimming / flying lesson from tank of the CalFire DC-10!

Edit, sorry didn't see your last two post about catching the guy.

62 an hour ago on the way to mid 90s... really like these cool nights. We cool the house down with whole house fan, then close things up, close the blinds and it stays cool all day... it is a shock to go outside to the 90s when the house is in the 70s...

We have 2yo grand daughter on Tuesdays, always fun. I work from home so wife does the care giving, but I get visits to my office throughout the day. Being grand parents is nice.

Just last week they had a press conference to announce that one of last year's fires in that area started when a hot tub shorted out and caught fire.

Most people think of "defensible space", that 100' minimum distance between your house and the forest or wild meadow, is to protect the home in case of a wildfire. But out here, CalFire is more concerned that a fire at your house doesn't spread to the wildland. And this is an example of how defensible space could have saved hundreds of homes and even a few lives.

And yes, the District Attorney is considering whether or not charges will be filed against the homeowner. If they are, he could be liable for the cost of fighting the fire, and if I recall correctly, it ran into the millions of dollars.

Guy just finished up on the pad for the shop. He had given me a price of $1100 and then charged me $900, still a lot but it went in the right direction. He worked 5 hr's with a skid loader and a quad dump of gravel so I think it was fair. 90 f now but a nice breeze blowing so it is not to hot.

cherry pie is out of the oven and cooling off. Shame to heat up the kitchen on such a hot day but I had something
else to cook in there also.

warm sour cherry pie. yum
didn't like the number on the scale so no ice cream,
not like pie is lacking in calories. Loaded with them actually. Yum

That would be worth it to heat the oven just for that. I have not had one of them for 30 years and they were my favorite. Ed

yum cherry pie...no substitute.

Man, I miss a day and a half and it seems like there are a hundred threads to catch up with.

Sounds like many of you have children to be proud of. I would love to work at JPL, but sorry no offense, can't deal with the Ca politics.

rs, I was wondering about the fish tales. We cleaned out ours about 10 days ago. Our oldest angelfish was sick. bloated badly, not eating, red gills. I tried treating him but he kept getting sick. I told the daughter, let's clean the tank and see if it helps...no such luck. He was too far gone. You can buy new fish much cheaper than the meds. Reminds me why not to have expensive fish. Because I'm not that good of a tank owner...

Farmer, I hope your wife can get back going 100% soon and that your new baby learns to sleep most of the night.

Ron, hope your doc visits go well, and tell your doc's to only buy a hot tub and not a whole Caribbean island.

RNG, I've been pondering the same question about fans. More efficient to suck or push? I believe most are setup to exhaust. Hope your lights work, and I think they should give each family that lost their home about 30 minutes with the guy. I wonder how they figured out who dunnit? He has to have only about half his marbles anyway. No normal person would intentionally do that. Although, I did shoot off some fireworks when I was 16 that could've started a fire. Thankfully, my friend saw the smoke maybe a hundred yards away and went and stomped it out. Most of ours are started by careless cigarette smoking drivers who don't use their ashtray.

Putting the kids to bed early so that they can get used to waking up for school at 6am next Monday.

I hope everybody has a great day tomorrow.

Did Kyle mention lights? Managed to get them all rigged up this afternoon, only to find that just four at a time can have their power leads daisy chained one to the other. I made that discovery by observing that the lights at the end of the 16 lamp string were either dim or not working, and then all the lights went out. The first two never recovered, and it was at that moment I noticed, in tiny letters, a warning on the electrical socket of one of them about a four lamp limit. Nothing on the box, and there were no instructions, so no wonder I missed it. So tomorrow I'll be heading into town for a couple of replacements. And that's why the front of the van is a bit dark; the missing lamps should have been there. This is good enough to go with, and I'll try to use the setup to shoot primer early Thursday morning. Looks like temps will be in the 70s at about 3AM, perfect for the materials I'm using, and I'll only have to get up an hour or so early. It'll be a good dry run on shooting the color, even though the doors won't be in place.

Fan wise, I don't think there will be enough flow to clear the overspray from the booth as quickly as I'd like, but that's something else what I want to find out on Thursday. The fan was definitely used in the past in a way that drew paint fumes over it, as in it was sucking on the booth. I really don't like that idea, as it will pull dust and bugs from outside the booth through any leak in the plastic, and I guarantee that there will be a lot of them. So if it doesn't push the fumes out fast enough, maybe I can get away with just painting more slowly. The new gun might also be some help, as it's supposed to be more efficient, as in more paint on the van and less in the air.

Oh, and I saw on the news that they caught ANOTHER, different, arsonist, this time near Shasta Lake, who started two fires north of lake last Saturday morning. No kid, he's 38 and from San Francisco. Be interesting to see what else they find out about him, and why he was up there.

San Francisco man arrested after lighting fires at Shasta Lake - KRCR

I see people tossing butts out the window every time I drive to town. I don't worry so much about it on the freeway, but half the trip is on county roads with dry grass on both sides. There have already been two fires this year along one of those roads. It's only because it's heavily traveled and there's a CalFire station on it that the fires were prevented from exploding into something like we're seeing now in Clearlake.

A rather muggy 76 right now...only going to 79 today, but I expect this humidity to hang around...

   / Good morning!!!! #48,857
Muggy here, too. 75 going to 93 and maybe a storm.

Mowed 3 more hours yesterday. Maybe I need a bigger or faster mower. :). I don't bag, and usually have no problem with clippings piling up, but this year has been different.

Had to put out 3 more hummingbird feeders...they have been frenzied with this heat...thought we were clear of hornets this year, but saw a yellow jacket yesterday on a feeder along with the bees and wasps.

Promised to take my wife out today.

Poured first cup of coffee. 62° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 84° with afternoon thunderstorms. .2" additional rain yesterday. Got going on the software cleanup. Then came across a drawer with cables, routers and backup drives. Cleaned up the drawer also. Took awhile to move data on old drives to newer drives. I now have 2 empty drawers in desk and a empty wall cabinet. What to put in them? Going to move WiFi router on network to a new location today. This will clean up counter top where monitor is. Wife is already plotting what to use this area for.
Buppies, a cool house again.
Drew, MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM good.
Good Morning All.
