Good Morning! 77F @ 5:15AM. Sunny. High near 95F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Guess the legislators in your state don't realize how fast mags can be swapped over, or is the next step to ban detachable magazines ?
The unstated goal has been quietly whispered for years: A complete ban on all firearms. And not just in California, but nationwide. Except at election times, of course, when any such ideas are vehemently denied by the Left while the Right points out that actions speak louder than words.
Am I to understand that the Thompson you speak of was semi-auto as well, or is there a similar variation available for full blown machine guns? Supposedly there is here, but the license is quite expensive and sales of new full auto arms to civilians has been banned for years, making those in circulation both rare and even more expensive. Of course that hasn't stopped criminals from altering semi-autos, as evidenced by the L.A. shootout from a few years ago. Or just bringing them in with the truck loads of other contraband that comes in regularly through the Mexican tunnels.
Was outside on the driveway piecing together more plastic for the ends of the spray booth yesterday, all before the sun was even up. Then came inside for a water break, and to order the epoxy body sealer and special pneumatic application gun for it, and while I was at it, a big roll of Mass Loaded Vinyl sheet for interior sound deadening on the van. I also phoned a pro car painter my new supplier had put me in touch with, and learned that my spray gun wasn't properly set up for the color coats I'm getting ready to shoot. Spent an hour trying to locate the needed fluid tip and needle, but since the gun is almost ten years old it appears that the supply has dried up. A call to the US importer still goes unanswered, so this trusty tool may end up being retired to only shooting primer. Technology marches on...
Back outside the temperatures had reached the 90s, but there was some shade at the front of the garage to work in assembling the wooden frames for the plastic. I started ripping 10' 2x4s into three equal width sticks, which went well until the last one, which was twisted like a piece of cheap licorice. Kept jamming the saw blade and popping the circuit breaker until I figured out I had to twist the wood just a bit as it was fed. Those pieces were not very useable, but being all I had to work with I at least had an excuse for the "not some of my best work" outcome. Built a long frame to hold the two exhaust filters, which were nothing more than very airy fiberglass furnace filters without the usual cardboard around the edges. Strips of wood screwed down along the edges hold the filters in place. Got a long rectangle put together for a door frame, but it took two tries to get the hinges to work properly, then I noticed that the pins were upside down. Decided that the little use the door will get won't be enough to let them fall out, but that decision might come back to bite me later. At that point I was short about 8' of wood, and the thought of digging through the tarped wood pile in hundred degree heat led me to call it a day. Good progress none the less, and most of the questions I had of how it would all fit together have been worked out. Today I'll tackle the frame for the two box fans and intake filters, likely the trickiest part of the build.
Hope everyone enjoys the weekend! :cool2:
