Nice day, 75 and a breeze, Took advantage of these 70 temps and cut two dead Elms down, One about 55-60' and the other was a big weed. Ground the stumps to. Man I am loving that grapple, just cut it to 10' and grab and go. Never get off the tractor and it is gone on the burn pile.

I had one fly into my garage and even with both doors open, it could not figure out how to get out. Flew around for a day, then likely died. They need to eat constantly and nothing in the garage they would like. I felt badly for the little thing but clearly my "shoo-ing" did not get him to drop down five feet and fly out the opening; he/she kept circling around at ceiling height. Too far out of natural environment to figure out what to do.

Same thing happened to a bird here a couple winters ago. Tried shooing him out with a broom, and failed for the same reason. Had to leave for a month long trip, so I hung a quart feeder up in the garage, closed the door, and hoped for the best. When I returned I heard a squawk as the garage door opened, and there he was, hovering looking right at me. Still wouldn't leave the garage though. So I hung the feeder outside the sliding glass back door, which I left open, and he was gone the next day. But every once in a while a male bird will come into the garage while I'm working out there and take a lap looking around at everything, and then come over to me and hover for a bit. I guess he's just saying 'hi', or maybe thanks?

When a hummer gets trapped in a garage, close the door when dark, turn out all lights, and wait an hour.
The hummer will relax and sit on the floor.
Take your flashlight and locate him and gently pick him up in your cupped hand and release him outside.

This has worked for me several times. They don't seem to mind being picked up

This happens to me at least 3 times per season. If you will hang an empty feeder in the doorway that the sun will shine on it, they'll usually fly down to it and then find their way out. I keep an empty feeder just beside my sunny side garage door for this reason.

70 this morning and headed to 96 today. Currently 75.

Think I'll go side dress the corn and till that in while the dew is on. Then it's put the rake back on the tractor and make a 8-9 mile road trip and rake up about 100 bales of hay. Hopefully as that's dads estimates. I've yet to see the field.

Hauled in 52 bales of hay yesterday in 4 loads. Got the shed filled and started stacking for the tarp. That was a learning experience. Only restacked the first pyramid a half a dozen times before I got it to stay. It's a 3 2 1 stack. A lot of weight up high. The Kubota had an easier time reaching the top bale than I thought she would. Will hit 200 hours on that machine today. It's 6 months old. Then went to buddies place and setup his new computers for his chicken coops. He took a lightning strike about 2 weeks ago. Birds go back in next week. Lost 3 computers and was lucky his birds left like 4 days prior so he was empty at the time.

Drew. I understand what you mean about the constant pain. My neck been on the fritz since we started this marathon hay season. Really need it to rain so I can get off tractor for a few days. I think it's the constant jarring.

Farmer, how much hay did you end up raking? That neck ache is from the look behind "craning" that comes with running implements.

Drew, the old army Ranger that I told his story on here a couple of weeks ago, would take table grapes and soak them in some sort of good alcohol for his arthritis. I can't remember what type, maybe cognac?? Anyway, he'd put them in a mason jar and keep them soaking in the fridge and would pull a few or more out every evening for medicinal purposes. He swore by them.

mid 90's here, had a fun time down at a friend's home down by the River, went swimming for the first time in it, so full of sediment and tannin I couldn't see my own hand but the water felt great, almost no salinity, and it was shallow way out into the river. At least there are no sharks here...
While I was there I changed the oil on my new Cub Cadet with the 24hp Kawasaki engine. Only had five hours on it, supposed to do it at ten, but the oil was surprisingly dark. I put Pennzoil 10W/30 synthetic in it along with a new oil filter and that will do it for the year.

Early this morning I picked several pounds of string beans , and gave most of them away. Neighbors were thrilled. I still have another pound left for me. And I picked five cucumbers today, kept one, gave the rest away. Still early in the season, friends aren't running from produce yet...
and eggplants are now the size of a small fist. There appears to be five or six on each of three plants, yikes. I may have to stake the plants to support the weight; never grown them before. Lastly I cut three quart baggie fulls of fresh basil; three different varieties.
I already have some so that was given away also. Need to keep cutting it so it will keep growing and not go to seed. Boy it made the truck smell nice. Would have been funny if I had been stopped with those three baggies on the seat. Uh, just sniff officer. Not to worry...

The a/c units are all roaring away and keeping me comfortable. Not going out until early in the morning. Beginning to be the time of the year when I plan my days for being outside in the morning and inside in the afternoon. Just too hot for me.

Kyle. I really don't know. Dads still baling. When I left he had 75 bale on the ground and probably 50 more in windrows.

We've rolled around 180 bales before today. These are 4x5 rounds. Still have close to 75 to cut.

one of my closest childhood friends is a retired health officer and sent me this. One more thing to tell your kids not to do. And if by any chance you have any racing fuel lying about, hopefully not near open flames...perhaps it should be locked up.
Maybe in Science class they need a special course on alcohol, methanol, all those "ols" that can be bad news in varying quantities. And then show a diseased liver and
see if they want that...
Racing fuel and soda pop, now there's an intelligent mixture. Would they drink from the pump at the gas station? Maybe I should lock up my can of denatured alcohol.
That stuff has to be seriously toxic also. Kids experiment but this is sadly stupid.
Did they really think they were dealing with some kind of moonshine?
I can just hear them, oh just a little won't hurt. Gets ya really ripped too.
Darwin at work but I also see a parent losing their child.

In college there was every kind of mind expanding drug available, window pane acid
was one I remember. And thankfully I resisted the temptation and retained all my brain cells.
I have mentioned before I had a college professor die one weekend from experimenting with
poison laced something, I think acid. Here Friday, gone on Monday.
Made a big impression on me, we are what we eat.

And I had some yummy freshly picked green beans today and feel
quite healthy at the moment. Wrist is improving also since I've tried to chill, literally too
by staying inside. House stays cool, though I'm not going to like my next electric bill.
Next two months will make my electric utility stockholders smile.

Decided to fix my wife's old craftsman mower that's been sitting in the shed since Jan. Was able to get a new steering pinion gear and muffler for a somewhat reasonable cost. When we got the new mower and had the service guy come out he suggested that if we got the extended warranty on the new that he could get the parts for the old, so we did. So today I made the repairs and did some mowing with the old machine. I just wish the tires would stay inflated. Already replaced 2 front one on the new machine and not reality any improvement. I had put tubes in the old one at one point, but eventually they wouldn't hold air either. Service guy told me that often the tubeless rims have rough spots that wear on the tube. As much as I don't like the idea, apparently the slime stuff is the only answer. On the last tire replaced, he found 3 holes about the size of a needle.

That was before The Woman announced "We've got things we need to be doing ..."

Staking up her dahlias was one item on her agenda ... giving the rhody a haircut was another. But I had my own as well ...

Hostas were starting to get out of control in the front of the garage and were starting to choke out the hydrangeas ... so time for a little propagatin':

The four large blue-green hostas in the image below were split from one existing plant in front of the garage. I still have at least one more to split and remove. The remaining four may get split or not.

The variegated green and white ones came from four clumps in front of the garage. Still another three or four clumps there ... may leave them for now.

Good morning! 77˚ partly cloudy.
Good luck on you surgery Ron, we hope this time you will recover quicker. I have had two of those surgeries, no problems 10 years later.

Had another flat on my truck. I get one every other month, and always buy the $29 Discount Tire warranty. On this set of tires they have now replaced two, a $348 value.

My Phillips Shaver Smartclean/charger quite cleaning, under the 2 year warranty, and they sent me a new one. Along with the Faucet I'm getting a lot of stuff replaced under warranty this month.

At 40 hours, I replaced the blades on my ZTR for the second time, they were really worn. They only last 20 hours out here. I wish I could find a blade that last longer. The ones I use have a special edge, "Fusion", which give me about 5 hours more use.

A hot week this week with the heat index reaching 110˚.
