Good morning. Looks like we are in for showers for most of the day. That's bad news as I've run out of excuses for not tackling a lot of the pending inside jobs. I can't complain really as my wife encouraged me to play with the new welder for a few hours yesterday. Slowly making progress - at how to grind out ugly welds and start again.:)

Ron, do hope your new Lincoln grease gun turns out to be as much fun as my K32. Mine is always so eager to please with a squeeze, it's little flexi tail wiggling with delight each time I treat it to a new tube of the sticky stuff.

RNG It is many years since I read a Hemingway book on shooting. If I remember correctly, in one of them he discusses the size of shot and what to wear when tracking down a wounded leopard. Since that day I have never, ever, been tempted to risk a shot at a leopard - not that there are that many of them roaming the English countryside ;)

Looks like mix bag of weather w/temps most of week,so the wood furnace will be purring once again.

Yesterday gusty winds made for another job on spring clean up list.

Enjoy the day all.

warmer day today, mid fifties now, going up to mid 70's, then a cold front comes in with frost warnings out. Good thing those tomato plants aren't in yet...but my seeds just planted should be fine.

David's train trip might have been delayed due to connection delays. Hard to believe in these days of safety first that Amtrak could run into their own backhoe and kill two employees. Not good at all, plus wrecked the train and hurt a bunch of people inside. After killing all those people on that bad curve in Philadelphia, one would have thought they would have tightened up their safety routines.

I'm off this morning to register my travel trailer. This is where NC collects big taxes, on registration, since no income tax.

Roy, hope you are feeling better soon.

I thought NC had an income tax...maybe that's changed since I last did my son's tax return.

It is 53 her which is a low, going to 79 with a light breeze. I have 1 service call today and then home to burn another brush pile. I haven't had time to work on the front pasture, but lost my desire when I found the price of grass seed this year. I guess I can always just keep planting millet and rye. Yesterday the wife and I worked on the garden. Happy to see flowers on the peas and squash already, corn is about 8" tall, and the turnips and potatoes are going crazy. Okra not doing so well this year. It is hard to imagine the cold you guys are getting up north when we got sunburned.

Drew, if NC is anything like FL, then they nail you for bringing in a trailer from out of state. The great deal I got on my transport wasn't such a deal when I bought tags for it. They cost me almost 1800 the first time and now will only be 45 a year from now on.

Good morning! 40˚ heading to 70˚ clear skies.

The first part of the week will be painting the cattle guard.
I'm still tying to figure how to move the 18' beams with two tractors into place without breaking anything. But, as Ron knows, if my idea's are not successful I alway have a cousin to call who has a bigger tractor.

I often tell folks I'm a much better grindor than I am a weldor  I spent years wielding a massive (as in very heavy) body grinder similar to the ones I used in the truck body shop, with 7" bonded abrasive wheels. In 2012 I started a big tile job on the house, and learned that 7" diamond cutoff wheels were very expensive, but the 4 1/2" ones very affordable. All I needed was a 4 1/2" grinder to fit them. So I ordered one from Amazon, and was amazed at how well the diamond blade worked. Being an inquisitive fellow, I soon ordered a 4 1/2" bonded abrasive wheel for it, and learned that it worked almost as well as the monster seven incher and was much easier on my back and wrists without all that weight. With the 1/16" thick cut off wheels, the plasma torch gets much less use as well. And with a knotted bristle wire wheel (cup shape), rust disappears almost instantly leaving ready to weld or paint surfaces on junk yard steel that might otherwise be left in the yard.

It's been many years for me, too, Eric. Time to give Papa that space on the night stand again. I'll try to find that passage you referred to, as I often find fresh mountain lion tracks in the driveway here.

Coffee is great this morning. Very gray outside, need to get a few things done here, then off to get lunch. Worked on taxes last night, hopefully done tonight.

Have a good one!

Mid 50's to mid 70's today, then a cold front later, a couple of nights below freezing this week, and Saturday is supposed to be cold, after that spring comes back.

Good Morning! 54 F @ 6:00 AM. Plentiful sunshine. High near 75F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Hope you're feeling better Roy and using those cool temps as an excuse to stay comfy near a fire with a good book.

Also hope our David didn't get mixed up with that train wreck back east. But I can easily envision travel delays to his train even if it wasn't the same one that hit the construction equipment.

Got the last box of tools put away yesterday, though one Blue Point open end wrench set is still looking for a home. Some of the roll away drawers are now much heavier for some reason  and more than a few holes in the peg board panels have new hooks in them. There's a new ad on Craig's List for the old dinette set; if it's still here by the end of next weekend it'll get re-homed on the burn pile. All that scurrying around plumb wore me out, so I took a page out of EOAT's book and napped for an hour after lunch.:cloud9: Got the Yamaha loaded for the trip into town today, but taking no chances hooked it back up to a battery charger. Brought some wood up for a campfire, but since I was 5 Gb under the data cap that renewed last night, I turned streaming back on and watched a few episodes of Orange Is The New Black. Season 3 isn't as entertaining as the previous two, and now that I'm back on rationed bandwidth, I'm not sure it's worth staying up 'till midnight to catch the remaining episodes.

When I spoke to the auctioneer yesterday about using Rock Island Auctions I sensed he wasn't pleased because guns are a big draw to his auctions. So today I'll forward an inventory list to him so he can provide his feedback, which I'll be able to compare to what the RI folks have to say. It just doesn't make sense to me to market high grade guns in a county known as one of the poorest in the state when RI regularly attracts some of the highest rollers at their auctions and they seem to make it so easy to participate. :confused2:

Hope everyone's work week gets off to an easy start...

First cup of coffee has been poured. 62° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 89° with sunny skies. Working on preparing motorhome for leaving our location on Sunday.
Eric, got grease gun loaded and ready to use. Neighbor came by. Started talking and then NASCAR race and then to hot to work on project. Will get it done before we leave.
txdon, Could use a backhoe to set things in place.
Good Morning All.

Forgot to mention that the latest measurements on the Sierra snow pack are in. In spite of all the bally who over El Nino, in Northern California the pack is running right around average for this time of year, while to the South it's much below. That's not terrible news for this year, but since El Nino is rapidly weakening it means trouble for next year and gives the drought mongers ample ammunition to continue their water conservation crusades.
