All three widow-makers taken down.
First one:
... broke off the second one:
... at the base and knocked it over as it was coming down.
The third one was standing up a little straighter after those two came down.
He wanted to just push it over with the bucket on the CTL.
Told him "no way" as it was rotted out and could break off further up and come down one him and his machine.
I had about 70' to 90' of 3/8" chain I wanted to hook up on all of them to pull them down from a safe distance and he was kind of dismissive of that ... suggesting we just use a short length of chain.
So I explained why that was
a really, really bad idea and we proceeded to hook up most of the chain except for a couple of shorter lengths.
The third one did indeed tip back and fall towards the him in the CTL, landing just to the side of it.
If it would have fallen directly towards the CTL it would have at least caught the bucket and maybe taken out the front glass on the cab ... and him.
Afterwards he said
"Good call on using the longer chain..."
Ahhh ...
yeah ... not my first time at this rodeo ...
A couple of lessons there for the both of us.
Hopefully he learned a little something about just how dangerous dealing with old rotted standing timber can be.
For my part the lesson is never compromise with safety.
Should have insisted on using
ALL of the chain.
Will swap a little grading work with him on his MIL's new lawn in exchange.
