Working on the first cup.

It's a cloudy, cool 57 here right now .... but the clouds are supposed to rapidly decrease and it should warm up fairly quickly .... high is supposed to be around 70 today ....

IOW: perfect working weather

I have lots to get done today before the rain arrives late tonight:

Place and set two catch basins and mortar/'crete them in, finish installing the new, dedicated hard lines for the downspouts on the north end of the barn, finish covering up another trench, do something with the huge pile of clay I've mined over the last few days while grading .... and a few other things ....

The grass (all 5 acres of it) needs cut too .... but that probably ain't gonna happen until Sunday or Monday ....

After the rain tonight/early tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be good (no rain, mild temps) for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday .... and that could mean .... another weekend of mini-ex rental ....

David, that is one tough duckie!!! Kinda cool here, 47. I am helping my wife today, hopefully I will be able to do some stuff today. Might rain later.

I think she will become our mascot... She kind of make the "water off a ducks back" seem like an understatement.

We have 3 female cayuga ducks and drake Ruen (looks like a big mallard) and muscovy ducks, PLUS the little muscovy girl...

Yeah, I was going to ask about bird safe next...

When I was a kid we had a flock of chickens and a mongrel collie we had adopted killed two of the birds, my dad soaked the body of one chicken in vinegar overnight then the next morning he fastened it to the dogs collar. After two days of dragging that carcass around the poor dog finally had the body removed from his collar, and he would not even go near a chicken again.

I just looked up Floyd, VA on Google Maps and it is a LOVELY area!

In amongst all of your foster dogs, please PM me if you have a Great Pyrnee or a farm dog type that I could adopt to protect my chickens and ducks etc.

Something that would keep the foxes and coyotes and raccoons off my property and away from my birds.

I prefer to rescue animals, they seem to appreciate it more.

Floyd is a long drive, but it looks like it would be a beautiful drive...

Hey David,

It's my understanding that while Great Pyr's are excellent for protecting flocks of sheep (not sure about other animals) they more or less have to be raised with the young lambs and come to consider themselves part of the flock, or the flock part of their pack. I'm not sure that a dog over six months to a year old would be trainable for the job. I'll do some research on the topic just as soon as I get a bit more time to do so.

Maybe a Catahoula Leopard Dog? They are very protective and guess what - I just happen to have one in foster care. He looks very similar to the Blue Catahoula in this Wiki entry:

Floyd is a beautiful area and if you like bluegrass, old time, gospel and such type music it's a nice place to enjoy lots of it. On Friday nights' there is music not just at the Country Store but out in the street too with lots of folks coming from far away to enjoy the place.

I also need to try to get my JD mower deck welded I NEED to mow...

Last night I cuddled and played with my 1-winged Duck. She is so sweet and seems happy about everything. If she did not have a name already I'd name her Grace I think... But that name has issues...We named the pair of bantam's Grace and Marshall because we were POSITIVE we had a male/female pair. We DO! But when Grace started crowing a week ago, they became Grayson and Marsha

Good morning. Today I will cut and lay 200-400 pavers in an curved shaped drive. everything is on property: pavers and new wet saw! It's a cool 70 degrees and just getting to 90 since that cool front hit yesterday.

So, yesterday I took the retired trotter out for a drive (my first driving in about 15 years). Jockey was so funny in how much he loves it. He knows his job and wants to show it. Which is the thought I am taking to work with me this morning, even though it's Friday. I know I do a good job and most of the time my job is good.

Here is a picture of me and him, after I saw it I realized that using the holes in the harness that the other people have used was wrong. I spoke with the owner on balance and suggested changes, she said that she and the other person that have driven him have never had any training and just used pictures. Going back to how wonderful Jockey was, I could have had the cart upside down and he would had just as happily gone on.

Hi guys, it began drizzling rain about 4 pm yesterday and I was out running my weedeater for an hour in the wet, I actually prefer to do that job (yes it's gas powered) when the grass is wet because the clippings don't end up in my mouth...:laughing: Looks like it kept raining much of the night which is good as it was so dry. Going to run my errands today, it's 48 degrees now. Catch ya tomorrow !!!
