Growing up, the county fairs were a real sign of fall.
When I was in 4th grade, my Dad got a job as an electrician building the power plant outside Middletown, Conn. We all lived in an 8x40, Pontiac trailer (mobile home for you young ones). Seems the only park with available space was owned and functioned as the winter quarters for Thompson Bros carnival. So these were our friends, neighbors and school chums until late spring. They set up in the field where we lived for about 2 weeks then departed for their summer circuit. Good memories.
We then moved back to Maine, we my folks had 5 1/2 acres. My Dad was an electrician for the build of Pease AFB - closed a number of years now.
