oldest son been having car trouble. shuts off randomly while driving... Garage said he needs a new engine. I told him to look for a new car....

I get medicare stuff in the mail, no prices, just things like, "we will save you money". No info to go on. I have insurance from past employeer that I can keep, need it for my wife also. So I pay regular medicare and pay for my other insurance, so medicare costs me more.

Good Tractor Morning Ted,

The problem with Medicare Advantage plans are that they don’t pay a lot of your incurred medical costs down the road. You save money up front but they look to be more costly down the road. Kathleen and I originally signed up for straight Medicare, more costly up front but could save us down the road. We also have AARP Supplement plan N. Hopefully you took a close look at all your costs, especially if there are medical issues in your family. 🙏
Morning Scott, right now I really don't have any medical issues except for my knee.... anything to do with the knee has to be done under workman's comp. Scripts are all cheap tier one meds.

The only part that was a "gamble" was the hospital stay.... $450 a day for the first 5 days, and $265 for MRI, CT, etc.. Other than those costs, eyeglasses and hearing aids are about 80% covered.

I am not planning any catastrophic events, so maybe a gamble.....

It's my understanding is getting out of Advantage is nearly impossible.
My .02
I have asked 3 different insurers about switching back, and scoured medicare documents. One CAN switch back to Medicare without any problems but only during the open enrollment period.
The issues come into play if you want to get a Medigap policy from Medicare..... then you have to jump some hoops and provide all your medical records.

Good morning! Low was 36°, only heading up to 60°, sunny and light breezes.
Tonight it is forecast to drop to 25°. That will probably cause the rest of the leaves to drop.

I was able to get a good portion of the gable end siding up yesterday, but the wind kicked up halting any further progress. Today the back gable will get done.... hopefully....
The front has level gravel and I was able to use the scaffolding. The back has a substantial drop in the grade, so can't use the scaffolding. I have to use extension ladders..... not going to be fun nor fast! It's not real high, 15 ft to the peak. It will be "cumbersome" to get the pieces up there.

My goal is to get the trim up before the weekend, and then finish the roof over the weekend.

I'll take a couple of progress pics and post later.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Dona just got a call to schedule her epidural shots...next Friday. Please send out some extra prayers that it will work.

what you really don't want is to be on the hook for a percentage of the bill with no cap.
today's medical costs, the bogus hugely inflated stuff we see on our bills, that gets paid at 30-40% by insurance,
well with no insurance they want you to pay for the inflated part.

my hospital bill in NC was about half a million. I was not billed for one cent.
needless to say, I am so far ahead of the game here, hard to fault what I'm paying now.
With my routine primary and three specialty docs, I'm sure I cost insurance companies well over 10 grand a year, based
on all the scans they routinely order on me. And that's if I'm avoiding operations.
Which is getting harder to do...

remember my story where when I called the local hospital to complain about the bill, which was hugely inflated, a
terrible tooth/jaw infection on Christmas Eve, not covered by Medicare. So I got the inflated bill and my 35 minutes in that outpatient
facility got billed at over 1300 bucks. Was told "oh, if you ask, we can always knock off a third". Really.
Well by time I paid the bill it was 700 something, still ridiculous, but I didn't want a lien.
teeth and feet poorly covered by Medicare, if you have issues, maybe consider a plan that will actually pay you back.

Prayers sent Ted. I'm seeing my primary this afternoon to get an epidural asap on lower back.
if they say it's too bad to operate on, at least numb the heck out of it.
I've had about a dozen on neck and back. Found they last about six months, sometimes more.
but it's like that diet and exercise part you always get lectured on, you also have to chill out that section of the body
to let it heal. I'm sure Dona is giving her polo pony a rest... ;)

Good Tractor Morning,
Ct, 36 to start going to 54 or so. Increasing clouds as the day goes on, but supposedly no rain until Thursday. Looks like I will put my work day down as Wednesday.

Grand kids getting excited about Halloween, of course Nana is revving them up with masks and candy etc 😉

This mornings project was to go down on the basement to our electric panel and start trying to figure out which breaker went where. I had written that all down years ago but after 42 years the writing has faded away 🥲
So I got most everything labeled now, hopefully it lasts 😉

Yesterday I took all the Gazebo screens off and folded and stored them in the garage. Not sure what im
Getting into next 😃

Hope all have a blessed day 🙏

a record seven freezies and one biopsy.
good for another six months at dermatologist. She is really good.

now to reschedule our rv trip for next week. Found out not only did the campground near Rock Hall not have
septic connections, but they just shut down their bathrooms. And all this for 100 a night (which is very high for rv's).
we just said no.
instead successfully booked two waterfront sites next to each other at Duck Neck Campground, in Chestertown MD
I used to keep my boat in the Chestertown Marina

Lol, didn't mention it but I did use the impact type calibration tool (hammer) on the starter last night, but being one person I couldn't tap and turn the key at same time. I will attempt all mentioned remedies this evening.

With that said, after thinking it over every time I woke up last night, I'm leaning towards it being a safety switch just by how it's acting.

We shall see.
Connect a spare length of wire to battery hot, and drag the other end under the vehicle with you. Pull the little fast-on key hot spade terminal off the coil, and touch the wire to that terminal. If starter spins, then it was an interlock switch or a fuse. If starter fails to spin, it's time to grab your calibrated hammer. Of course this all depends on you having already confirmed battery hot at large battery terminal on starter.

The last issue I had with a starter was on the Kubota RTV, the unit before the current model that I have now. Activated the solenoid by shorting the starter terminal and solenoid terminal with a screw driver but starter did not spin. Took the starter off and took it apart and found that the contactor inside the solenoid were worn to the point it would not make contact. Kubota only sells a new starter and dont sell parts for a starter. Found the contactor parts on Ebay and fixed it for a less than 10 bucks as I recall.
Back in my mechanic days I repaired a lot of starters in the times before being a mechanic is essentially a component replacer

67°F and .52 inches rain.

Only got a bit more than an hour with the poles before it started raining. Boy was that long enough. Saw is 3 section 9 or 10 ft and I concentrated on the overhead branches. Told Sophie, I should have gotten one that came with an 18 yo. Still more to do when not raining

Got my gas cans refilled. A nice Happy Hour at Mexican cantina.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great tractor day

56F and sunny @ 13:15, calling for a high of 57 for the day. Occasionally breezy with gusts to 8 mph. Clinton Station reports the low this morning was 36.5F.

Ten Day has changed dramatically, now only showing good chance of rain on Wednesday and Thursday instead of the entire period.

That will be good if it holds. Give me a chance to get more outside stuff done if there's a little sun and not too breezy. Highs mainly in the low 50's.

Was able to go back to sleep and slept like a rock.

Got meds doled out.

On the agenda for today:

Get cages put on arbs and tied to stakes after they are driven in.

Wash that extension ladder and get it put in the barn.

Hose out and clean mud off buckets and various items.

Maybe clean mud off 12" auger.

Finish topping off around posts.

Beyond that just see what else comes up.

Hope everyone is having a decent Tuesday ... (y)

That is mostly true. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018. My rates jumped $70 the next year. Today all my test come back negative. Who knows. A false/bad report can screw everything up.
If you are clear now, did the insurance rate drop $70.oo?

Drew, way back in 1972 I solved the tooth ache problem. Got them all out. At the time it would have cost me $1600.oo for falsies, so I never got them. I cannot crunch ice cubes or peanuts anymore but pecans and walnuts are no problem.')

my husqvarna mower has a wire bypassing a sensor that won't let it start. they sensor is in a place where the complete mower would have to be torn apart to replace the sensor, so a wire was much easier.

tried to fly drone to check my gutters, and very windy out. Water comes over side of gutter in heavy rain, but where the water comes over, the gutter looked clean, some leaves at other end... but that is also where downspout is, so maybe downspout hole is blocked, won't be first time.

Dentist said I had cracked tooth, I couldn't tell on the xray he showed me. sent me to specialist, who also said it needs to come out. Who sent me to oral surgeon that quoted me a good bit to take it out, and a lot more (Thousands) for an implant. I still have the tooth, and haven't had a problem since. I think it was just an infection and not a crack. I keep a few antibiotics around in case of another infection.

I changed from Supplemental to Advantage. Monthly charge is now $.00.
So I assume with Advantage, medicare pays the premium, or do you still pay the part B?

Friend at church found someone had gotten ahold of their medicare number, and was billing medicare for surgeries that the person never had.

Jaw infections and a crack tooth go hand n hand...

We have been one straight Medicare. Tricare for Life takes care of supplement and prescriptions. Has worked well for us. Of course we have to pay Vision and Dental separately, which some Advantage plans cover. Recently was able to switch my prescriptions to VA, but not a big savings being fortunate that its mostly my inhalers and BP.

Advantage plans negotiate with Medicare to provide the service. I have not seen any Advantage plans offering to pay the part B part this year. I have a HSA that will pay up to $3,600 of medical bills. If I do not have enough copays to use all that amount. I can use it to get the part B money back.

I think there are a couple of the giveback Medicare Advantage plans paying a part of the Part B premium here, but the trade-off is in coverage, like maybe no dental or vision coverage as part of their MA plan.

Medicare Part B monthly premiums, generally deducted from Social Security, if you've applied, cost from $206 to $702 depending on your income (a lot of uninformed folks think Medicare is free) plus, there are the Medigap supplement payments and sometimes dental and vision insurance as well as Part D Drug premiums.

Anthem is stopping their Part D plans next year, so I'm shopping for a new plan for my wife, who has Original Medicare...the drug plans here are from $0 to $101 monthly depending on coverage, copay, and how large of a deductible you are willing to pay.
