My tamper was multifunctional. A 12 inch, 1/2” plywood disc on a 10ft 1” pvc. Besides the initial depth gauge and tamping also served for depth and leveling off my concrete footer. Also served as rough alignment to see if center of holes were close. My tripod was set up for many days switching between the laser and transit. We had 9 15ft pipes to install. They had to be close to correct height as no way I could cut 10ft above ground. Fortunately each length was threaded on one end. I welded a Simpson bracket to a coupler and had an adjustable bracket.

Drew, just exploring various options can be rewarding in of itself.

Thanks Rick. I have the Northern Tools version, bought from a friend of mine. More useful than I anticipated. Just used it making braces for the carport, crushing ends of 2x2 tube.

Like your dolly idea and intend to copy. Please let us know if any stability issues. I also have a pedestal vice the might get a similar treatment.

Morning guys. I thought I’d stop in and say hi. I’ve been pretty busy with my parents, and honestly have felt overwhelmed. I’ll try to catch up over the next couple of days.

Have a good one!

Welcome Home

I知 waiting for Eastwood to have another sale on their press break. It goes down to $149.99 pretty often.

Eastwood Shop Press Brake Metal Bending Attachment

Does that air jack come with a foot pedal, Rick. If so, I can see where that would come in handy!

If it's not too much trouble, let us know when that bender goes on sale. I'm tired of wailing on bars held in a bench vice.:mur:

Good to hear from you again, Irv, and feel for you with your parents. Dealing with role reversal, elder care, and the medical-industrial complex was one of the most difficult challenges I've ever faced.

Moveable base wise, I've used several of these under machine tools. The come in various capacities, and keep the center of gravity low to reduce the tipping hazard. Just make sure to get one with about double the specified capacity of whatever you intend to put on it.

My 20 ton press was a Craig's List orphan from an outfit that made grave stones. It had a huge aluminum platter attached to the upper ram, used to press letter shaped dies into a sheet of masking material that would later be adhered to the stones for sand blasting. Paid seventy five bux for it, and after I cleaned out the hydraulics, it worked good as new. It seems I break more things with it than I fix. It also rides on one of the above moveable bases, which Amazon sez I've got eight of.
