The deer here eat pansies like candy, I found if the outdoor cats poop in the raised beds, the deer leave them alone. Heck of a trade off though!

Interesting info.

Thomas, very healthy looking fox. I put some mouse traps out again in my shed last evening so if I find some this morning, will have some tasty morsels to take to our "Predator Butte" for the foxes/hawks. My mouse count so far is 13, but nothing like Eric's mole "neighborhood."

As they say you gotta feed the help.

Foxes are extremely smart, but not house trainable. They 'go' wherever they want, even on your shag carpet.

Couldn't have said it any better. :)

Caught 3 mice last night. Can't believe how many have moved in this year. I guess a half a bag of corn might be the cause. :duh:

Good morning to all! Low of 28, going up to ?? . The forecast says maybe 46, but depends when a cold front moves across. Could be rain, sleet, snow... a mixed bag for sure! Tonight, 6-12 inches of snow is expected by Tuesday morning.

Spent yesterday helping my son get his transmission back in the truck, took three grandkids on tractor rides , then cleaned up / organized all the tools back to their respective homes. All reset from automotive back to woodworking. I think I need a bigger shop....

Ron, thanks for the Wunderground link. It is really neat how you can go anywhere in the country for localized weather info. I had no clue the system was out there... I have been living in the dark ages....

I did manage to find the neighbor that has the station. He did not even know it went back on line. He moved up here when he retired and sold his ranch down south. He said it was online down there. He had it tucked away for months and recently put it back up. He said he just “ turned it on” and didn’t do anything else. He was surprised that it was online....

Drew, sorry to hear your neck pain was so bad. Hopefully they can get you in the office sooner.

I hope you guys getting snow and ice are able to deal with it w/o much trouble. Looks like the south is going to get walloped with rain and severe weather outbreaks. Hope all stay safe.

I want to get back to the end table woodworking project today, not sure if it will happen.

Good news is my son’s garage door is scheduled to be installed on Wednesday. It is absolutely ridiculous that it took over 12 weeks to get. It was nothing special, just people not communicating with each other. I am amazed how some businesses can keep operating.

I have not seen any traces of mice this year, either out in the shop or the garden shed. I have usually found multiple mouse houses in them before. There have been two stray cats hanging around every now and then.... they must be doing their job well.

Everyone have a great day!

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 6:45AM. Sunny. High 71F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Lots of nice wildlife and weather pics lately, folks. Thanks for sharing. About this time of year, when the grasses are just starting to grow again but aren't very long, the deer will eat just about anything. Had one eat a jade plant that was parked on the front porch, and an agave, too. But they don't seem to care for any of the herb plants or plants with strong smells in the leaves: Sage, rosemary, lavender, and artemisia are all safe. But the same oils that the deer don't like make them good fire fuel...

I should get some traps set out in the garage, Wng. Been finding balls of fluff the mice have put in some of the toolbox drawers. I do have one or two in the house, but so far, there've been no takers.

Finished up with marking the last of the trenches yesterday, then switched over to the cement mixer. Learned that the rims were too small for the tire mounting machine, and that the tires are old and hard, making for a delightful time with the tire levers. Managed to get one tube installed and back on, then pinched the other, so I got to have that wrestling match twice. Had some time to kill while the patch was drying, and gave the starter cord a pull on the engine, and it locked up solid. Once the spark plug was out, I got a geyser of rusty water spouting from the hole. Seems that the muffler on top of the engine isn't much of a rain shield, and the exhaust valve being open didn't keep the rain out. No telling how long it's been that way, but the piston does still go up and down, so at least the rings aren't frozen. I checked the oil and it isn't all creamy, so maybe no water made it into the crankcase. Then I found the gas cap was loose, and sure enough, there was rust in the tank. Took it off, pinched off the fuel line, and filled it up with Evapo-Rust to sit overnight. So today I'll rinse the tank out with steaming hot water, blow it dry, and see if the engine will fire. I did get a spark from the plug, it has compression, so if the plug stays dry and I put gas in it, it should run. If not, it'll be time to shop for a new mixer, a much bigger one this time.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start!

Good news is my son’s garage door is scheduled to be installed on Wednesday.!

Glad you are getting the snow, and not us. Just rain the next 4 days.

You now have an experienced son to help enlarge the shop.
The GD could have been a lesson also, they are easy to install.

Haven’t found you yet, been too busy to look much. but don’t want any hints.

We are somewhat fortunate here with having to deal with deer. I have never seen a deer on our property. It is just out of their zone / wooded areas. They have been as close as a 1/2 mile. They don’t know that there is a whole smorgasbord buffet here for them!

There was a mountain lion sighting about a mile away, but that was 20 years ago.

I have had 2 different bear visitations over 25 years, a badger once tried to move in many years ago, but we harassed him enough to keep moving on. Lots of the small wildlife, rabbits, skunks, ground squirrels, plenty of coyotes..... oh , cannot forget about the snakes. I have dealt with numerous rattlesnakes.

Now that the population in-fill has grown over the years, I think the bigger wildlife have retreated up the mountains.

had to laugh when I read the back of a seed envelope for some form of pink pansy native to Peru.
I bought it, among many others, for the color.
Well....big warning on back. This flower is known as a hallucinogenic and should not be eaten. Warning, do not eat, may be toxic.
I surely will not.

wonder what my legal responsibilities are to put warning label on plant...
Has been my experience that saying don't do something often motivates certain folk to do exactly what they are told not to do.
It's a fenced garden anyway so not like dogs or kids will get in there.

waiting for friend to give me ride to auto body shop, then we will get lunch someplace and this afternoon hopefully plant a few more trays of seeds.
Hope you all have a nice day.

I actually thought about giving you another hint this morning.... glad I didn’t.

I have installed a few garage doors and, yes, they are pretty easy. I wanted to do it, but the son wanted a warranty. He did a full package deal with a five year warranty on the install, lifetime on the rollers / hardware, and a 10 year warranty on the opener.

The guys at Home Depot were telling us that the 16 ft doors have always come in damaged .... he didn’t want that hassle if we opened a box and found damaged panels. This way it is on someone else if there is any damage.

The overall price was about $500 more, but once you figure in our time to pick it up, install, deal with any problems etc... , then all the extended warranties, he figured it was worth it. It was hard to argue those points.
