Gnarly Wraps

I have about 80 acres of rolling, rugged Oklahoma ranch with too many red cedar. I chose to purchase a JD3720 with a tree shear and grapple rather than a skid steer as a compromise that will favor the long term use after the trees are brought under control. I love my M&M tree shear and grapple but they have an abundance of hydraulic line length I assume to accommodate different applications. The problem is that they hang and drag and the weight of them flopping around has even bent my quick connects. I've tried to stabilize the lines on the crossbar using zip ties but they'd walk around and things were back to flopping.

After an obscene amount of surfing non-obscene sites I found a company that sold velco enclosures but in 150' segments. The site below I believe buys their material and then cuts to length. The best part is that they sell 2' samples which is exactly the length I needed. The diameter choices could be broader but I ordered a segment that was over-sized and will use a piece of pipe insulation to increase the diameter of the cross-member/hydraulic lines to generate some tension.

This is such a better option that cutting the lines particularly since I'll be selling the shear when I'm done cutting trees and don't want to modify it. The stitching and materials of the wraps are impressive and I'll be ordering more "samples" for my 3rd valve lines among others.

Perhaps a moderator should contact these folks to see if they'd like to be a sponsor.

Here's something cheap that might have worked too. Just take some heater hose & slit it lengthwise & put it over the hydraulic hoses. Secure it with plastic cable ties.

I don't doubt that that would work. I need something that'll secure the lines as quickly as the disconnects allow me to swap out attachments.

Dan, what diameter did you order?

I am thinking about the 2 inch, but not sure if that is big enough for 2 hydraulic hoses.

It costs less to order 2', $5.91, than the 2' sample, $10.00.

In my situation, I needed to support two hydraulic lines that were wrapped to keep them together and somewhat protected and secure them to the crossmember of the FEL and so I went with a 5" diameter.

The site does have a matrix that details the dimensions. I put a cloth tape measure around the lines and crossmember and compared that to the matrix knowing that my measurement didn't include overlap for velco and I preferred to be oversized and filling with foam.

If you're not sure, I'd contact them rather than guess.

Thanks, I just need to protect the hoses, so the 2" will work for me.
