GM recalls 721K trucks with 6.2L engine

They are using a 0W-40, actually. Yes probably synthetic. The specific brand of oil does not really matter so much as the viscosity grade. So any good synthetic 0w40 or 5w40 would work fine. make sure it is "dexos" compliant, should say on the jug. Dexos is GM's oil quality specification.

Edit: I googled for dexos compliant 40 weight oils and am not finding much yet. Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 is terrific oil but i can't confirm dexos on it.
edit #2: You'd be good with that. Here's the official list:

We recently went used truck shopping since my wife totaled out our 1 ton and decided to go back to a 1/2 ton.

Looked at a real nice 2022 chevy. Seen it had a 6.2 and walked away. It's still there.

Engine sounded good but not gonna take the risk.

I only have a GM 5.3L engine, but I switched to a heaver motor oil @ 88K miles. Engine runs quieter and it seems like power output is a tad better (AT shifts less), mileage did not change.

Disaster for people who use their truck to make a living.
The neighbor has six 1/2 tons with the 6.2 in his fleet. He has had no problems yet. He also has a bunch of 3/4 and 1 tons.

BTW....the 6.2 crank journals are the same size as the 5.3 and use the exact same bearings. Bad cranks from one supplier can cause quite the problem.
