Here's the list I have so far... anybody have things to add? Once it is finished we'll publish it somewhere so new users don't have to guess what these things mean...

3PH = 3-Point Hitch
4WD = 4-Wheel Drive
BH = Backhoe
CYL = Cylinder
DT = Gear Drive (<font color=orange>Kubota</font color=orange>)
EROPS = Enclosed ROPS (weather tight cab)
E-TVCS = (E for Ecology, Environment, Earth) Three Vortex Combustion System (<font color=orange>Kubota</font color=orange>)
FEL = Front-End Loader
FOPS = Falling Object Protective Structure
GPM = Gallons Per Minute
GST = Glide Shift Transmission
HP = Horsepower
HST = Hydrostatic Transmission
HYD = Hydraulic
IPTO = Independent PTO
MCS = Material Collection System
MFWD = Mechanical Front Wheel Drive
MM = Mid-Mount
PRT = PowerReverser (<font color=green>JD</font color=green>)
PS = Power Steering
PTO = Power Take-Off
R1 = Ag/Bar Tire
R2 = Ag/Deep Tread Bar Tire
R3 = Turf Tire
R4 = Industrial Tire
RM = Rear-Mount
ROPS = Roll Over Protective Structure (Rollbar)
RPM = Revolutions Per Minute
SCV = Selective Control Valve
SRT = SyncReverser (<font color=green>JD</font color=green>)
SS = Shuttle Shift
SSS = Synchronized Shuttle Shift

I'm sure I have missed some... so please, reply if you know some others to add.

Maybe in the future we could also put together a list of what things are. For example, explain what a Front-End Loader is, and does, etc.

Muhammad,

Good idea! How far do you want to take it?

Do you want to include attatchments?...i.e.:

RM = rotary mower
RB = rear blade
FB = front blade
BXS = box scraper (BXB = boxblade)
PHA = post-hole auger

etc., etc.,

Well, it depends on what the term is... for example, would we list RM as rear-mount or rotary mower?

Also, are the other terms commonly used? I may have heard RB used, but never FB, BXS, BXB, or PHA... of course, we could make some up for the terms that aren't usually abbreviated if we wanted, but the list I posted was mostly items that are commonly used, and have been. I guess that's the question, if we should make up new abbreviations, or just make a collection of all that are used now.

Muhammad -

Great idea. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

For what it's worth, the owner's manual for my L2500 says DT = Dual Transmission (4WD).

Just glancing at their glossary, you might want to add:

2WD = 2-Wheel Drive
SMV = Slow Moving Vehicle

Good additions, Harv! I also thought of....

ZTR = Zero Turning Radius
DIY = Do-it Yourself
SYN = Synthetic

And we also might as well add...

JD = John Deere
NH = New Holland

Well, It seems to me that the terms "that are commonly used" are commonly used because SOMEONE started using them /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

I think the criteria should be " Is it a GOOD idea? ",... rather than "Is it an OLD idea?" I can't think of any larger group of "tractorspeak users", who should more appropriately "coin" terms!

Very true, Larry. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Oh, another one...

MFG = Manufacturer

...meant to add:

Of course some group review/comment on the "proposed" terms would be helpful before official adoption.

For (your) example : RMt for "rear mount" ( the lower-case letter(s) associate with the preceding upper-case ONLY).

So (if deemed necessary) RMwr for "rotary mower"... or whatever "abbreviation" was agreed upon.

Just because there are many ways to skin a cat, that doesn't mean you shouldn't pick "one"!

Might want to add GPH (gallons per hour) - I'm pretty sure that's the standard measurement for fuel economy/usage in tractors.

These terms are used by JD in their literature
DSCV(Dual Selective Control Valve)
SCU (Steering Control Unit)
RSA (Rockshaft Assist)
TM (Tech Manual)

What about some generic abbreviations
I.D.(Inside Diameter)
O.D.(Outside Diameter)
R.H.(Right Hand)
L.H.(Left Hand)
R&R (Remove and Replace)
WB (Wheelbase)
GVWR(Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)
Just a thought.
