My experience plowing with a tractor was using a BX2230. It was outfitted with a bx2763 blade a Curtis cab and a worthless Lesco spreader. It was amazing what that machine could push. The R4 tires on it did great on snow and little damage to turf. It would push a pile that was taller than the blade, and as long as the tractor without a problem on sidewalks. I have not operated a comparable unit with turfs so I can not testify as to which is better however i would have no qualms about r4's. This tractor was also used with a loader in the summer to maintain athletic fields. Any damage caused by the tractor was due to the weight of the machine being run over the same area several times not the bars on turfs. in my personal opinion R4's are a better way to go because you have better control on slopes and wet ground than with turfs. You will spin with turfs on damp ground and be mowing at more of an angle on hills because the machine crabs more as it has less traction from turfs. The more severe crabbing tears up the ground more than the bars sticking into it causing you to create ruts on hills
I think that turfs are over rated and to truly get the benefits that turfs tout you need to get a balloon tire like a galaxy turf tire that distributes the weight better but is worthless for winter because you do not have the required ground pressure to develop good traction.
