:thumbsup:I am sure there is a millions ones like mine. But I just bought a nearly new 1995 Horse with a Briggs 8hp industrial. Was in a shop for many years unused and in great condition, still has the paint on the tines. It was gone through by a qualified dealer and was traded in for a new Honda. Dealer was asking $995 but I was able to negotiate a fair price of $700 since I also purchased a new rear landpride blade and a Ihitch system.

Very happy about my purchase, is there anything I need to be concerned about with the new tiller.

Does the output and transmission use the same oil reservoir because I only see one location to add oil. The upper hole is for adding until it comes out the lower correct ?

You add oil to the transmission by completely removing the handlebars and pour the oil through the handlebar bolt hole on top of the transmission. Fill until oil runs out the top hole on the left side of transmission, above axle. The hole below the axle is the drain.

The output or tine unit has a seperate fill, right behind where it bolts to the transmission. You have to have the tines set a certain distance off the ground to check, which I can't remember right now.

It would be a very good idea to download an owners and parts manual from the MTD/TroyBilt site. Lots of important info to keep your tiller lasting a long time and if you take care of it it will last forever. Great machines

What is written above is partially correct. If you have an older type unit without a PTO engage/disengage lever, in other words you cannot remove the tines and hook up other devices.......You only have ONE fill point......the tines are the same fill as the transmission.

One fills the transmission up, tilts the unit back for awhile and then level it up. Take a reading at the fill/overflow plug on the side of the transmission. By the way, one can also fill the unit with oil here without taking off the handlebars; but it is a slow process........

MAKE SURE YOU USE THE RIGHT TYPE OF OIL...........Yellow metal friendly.........Perhaps someone can refresh my memory of the exact type and weight specifications????

Mine is the pto unit and it's a 1995 I think the last year made before mtd bought them out. Yes I would like to know what oil to add if needed.

my book says 80-90 wt but no mention of yellow gear type. bronze gear is i assume what you are referring too.
