GC2400 mower noise

I have been hearing what sounds like a gear meshing or a chatter coming from the mower deck on my GC2400. Has anyone else had this type of noise? It seems louder at the lower RPMs.

Mine makes noise on initial star-up (engaging PTO), but then is pretty smooth. You might want to check for loose blades or bad bearings....

Have you checked the fluid level, grease the spindles?

Yes I checked the fluid and greased the spindles, they all seem fine. It sounds like it is coming from the shaft itself.

Try running the pto w/o the shaft connected to the pto to make sure it is the deck making noise, and not the pto itself.

What I usually do with mine is too pull the pto shaft apart that goes too the mower's gear box from the tractors mid pto and actually grease the splinned shaft.Sometimes they'll also rattle a bit if the stub shaft [pto shaft]that come's out of the tractor is dry.Its always best to apply a bit of grease to that shaft as well as the quik connect end of the pto shaft as well.They need a bit of grease on the splines to stay quiet.
