Freeman MLGI Type "O" Grease?

I was checking the lube notes on my "not-quite-new" Freeman baler.

Different manuals apparently are slightly different. In my manual here:

Lubrication
9. For balers with centralized lubrication system, use only MLGI type "O" grease. Be sure grease is kept clean. Keep air out of grease lines.
11. For balers with Connecting Rod Lubers on the connecting rod heads, use only MLGI type "O" grease.

Another manual that I've downloaded has the same paragraph 11, but has replaced paragraph 9 with:
9. For balers with automatic lubrication system, use SAE30 motor oil.

I'm actually planning to move knotters from one baler to another. The donor baler has about 20 small plastic hoses going to the knotter assembly, but it is unclear whether it is considered "centralized" or "automatic" lubing.

Anyway, anybody know what the MLGI Type "O" grease is?

NLGI 0# grease is common.

for instance. JD cornhead grease is a 0# polyurea grease.

many types of lawn care equipment ( snapper.. etc.. ) use a NLGI 00# grease.

standard 'gun' grease is NLGI 2#

some auto stores and napa will stock 2 and 1 etc.

It clearly is an "M" in MLGI in the Freeman manuals, but it sounds like it is the same thing. A moderate low viscosity grease would make sense for a manifold distribution system.

Now, I just need to verify what parts I actually have. For the knotters, there is a manifold with a grease zerk, so I assume that is what takes the type 0 grease.

However, there appears to be what look like two hydraulic pumps, but the rear one is driven off of the knotter assembly, but doesn't have any hoses connected to it. I'll try to get some photos as I start cleaning things up. But I'm wondering if that would be for an oiling system. Perhaps the knotter assembly was changed at some time from oil to thin grease.

can't help you on that particular piece of equipment. i have soem construction equipmentthat uses central grease.. has tubes running.. but no fittings. tubes thread in to the joint ..e tc...
