Fixing another gravel drive

/ Fixing another gravel drive #31
I have a mile long driveway. The surface is a mix of gravel, sand, silt and volcanic ash. After the spring rains it becomes just like concrete. I use my HD rear blade to bring material out of the driveway ditches and spread across the driving surface.

Driveway was built in 1982. Still just fine without any additions.

Hmm. How about concrete millings, illegal too?
Nope. I used to get that (he called it 3/4 Minus) with the dust for $8/ton delivered w/in town (15 miles). Worked great for an elevated parking spot for the Winne. Packed like concrete.

We have started having some rain to wet things down. Last week we had close to an inch one day so I went out the next day while it was still raining and drizzling and reworked the entire road with just the box blade. My neighbor worked a small section near the county road while I spent about 4 hours on the rest of the road. I got rid of the most of the washboard but I can see that maintaining the road will be a regular maintenance chore. I fixed the hill that was the major problem (Three weeks ago I had to put my pickup in 4 wheel drive to haul a load of hay up the hill), the worst of the washboards are gone and with it being wet, everything packed fairly hard.

I drove out to get the mail and it was much better, but I saw the UPS driver had used too much throttle climbing the hill and did a little damage to it. I would put a sign out there, but I think it would be ignored.
