I have a b7800 with turf tires & a FEL. I have the nagging problem of front tires that leak air. I have researched the problem on TBN, and have come to the following conclusions: I will load my front tires with foam when I replace them, but I don't want to do it now since they aren't new. Slime works fairly well, but it can be messy when you operate with a FEL, which I do. It brings me to the question, has anyone used fix-a-flat in front tires? My neighbor swears by it in his tractor for the thorns. Is it a mess when you replace the tires? Any thoughts?

twodogs - Like you, I need to put something in my front tires to defend against the locust thorns, etc. I've always heard that fix-a-flat was only for temporary fixes. I was getting ready to do Slime. Why do you say Slime is messy with a FEL?

Sorry-
I should have been more specific. From what I have read on TBN, slime can get squeezed out when you put a heavy load in your FEL. I don't know if you have experienced it, but I typically notice a loss of air after a day of working with the FEL. I assume that the tires are being compressed so much that they leak out the sides.

I ran slime in the front tires of my B7100 with loader for several years with no problems. You don't need so much that you fill the tire, just enough to coat the inside. There's still a lot of air in there to compress under a load. I guess on second thought it was some generic equivalent of the actual brand name slime, but it worked.

Maybe you need to take the fronts in and have the rims cleaned up in the bead area, then put in new slime when you remount the tires. I encountered rim leakage at first, got the rims cleaned up, and then all was well.

I understand that I can get a flat fixed, but I don't want to have to do it several times per year.

If the leakage is from the bead when you work with the FEL and not from punctures- how about tubes? Tubes and slime to protect against small punctures?

Since you do have more flex with turf tires I think the best solution also would be to add tubes and some sort of liquid tire sealant.

Bernie, The slime they sell here at walmart by the gallon has a fiber mixed in with it. This prevents the slime from being pushed out of any holes. You can see it in the slime when you buy it. See if your walmart has the same stuff.

I have used various slime type products in my tires for many years because of mesquite trees on my place. After a while they all seem to stop working and need replentished. My front tires have lots of this stuff in them but I have never had them off the rims so I can't say what it does to them.

I recently figured out that instead of adding more flat preventitive when it stops working in the tires, I simply add a little water to the tire and it seems to rejuvinate the existing dope in the tire. It works in my atv tires also. Saves a little money.
