have not seen an update but brazing is the best way to go on cast. i would pull the freeze plug and use a dental mirror and look inside as it is right by the crack. willing to bet it is just the water jacket area. another idea is to reverse cut the crack and pack it with jb weld just like a dentist would do. the dovetail of the reverse cut helps lock the jb in place. have seen both done on a block and lasted longer than the tractor. another is to drill and tap a series of holes (after checking that is only!!! the water jacket area) and adding a metal plate to hold the jb weld in place. (most likely overkill though).....

My only comment here is on the JB Weld. I have seen JB Weld on a cracked block in a huge bulldozer. It was a crack in the water jacket and I thought there is no way this was going to work. The guy took time to clean things up and backcut the crack and to my surprise, the JBWeld worked. This was an old bulldozer that mostly sits outside and it was 18 years ago. Still no problems.

Similar result for us, a 1965 Mercedes 230 SL convertible- that a previous owner neglected to add the needed antifreeze to.
We tapped 4 holes and fabbed up a plate, then JB welded it using the plate to sandwich it.

36 years with no leaks.
