New job, and having to get use to a David Brown 990. I've never tilled before and now I'm having to get the hang of how this old girl works. I find that with the clutch in, I try to engage the pto to use the tiller and it grinds really bad before going in . I've tried backing down the rpms down to idle first , but doesn't make any difference . Anyone got the answer why?
I know that I was going to try and start it with the pto engaged first so not to make it grind but know that even if it did start it's not safe , so I'm up for suggestions . Any help would be very appreciated, thanks .

G'day can't say 100% but i think the 990 had a hand clutch to operate the pto and if my memory is correct it is to the left of the seat. It is just a handle that lifts up and you can push it to one side to hold it up. Sorry but i can't find my book to say for sure. Hope this helps
