Gomez, I have tried several of the fireplaces mentioned here. As mentioned a zero clearance (really reduced clearance fireplace) is a great option. I have once owned the Vermont Castings Winter Warm which is a catalytic type. I thought it was OK. I installed a non catalytic reduced clearance in our cabin called a Regency. It is the best one thus far. Check out their website and check for yourself. Extrodinaire (sp) is also another brand that is big in size and uses a catalytic converter. You might consider a JUCA stove. Check the web site. If nothing else, there is some interesting reading about the pros and cons of airtight vs non airtight. http://www.mb-soft.com/juca/print/

Thanks to all for the other options. We have been looking at possibilities for a fireplace/woodstove/insert that could be used as an auxilary heat source for our house.
