That's a good price. I've been planning on building one for years, I have most of the materials but need to find time to do some practice welding first. Last year I decided to bite the bullet and buy one, only to find that the price for a 5 foot blade has nearly doubled in the last 4 years or so; they are now well over $1000.
I just saw a 48" Tarter for $999, I would say that you got a good deal.

I also noticed this.Almost bought a new one 3 years ago for 699.00.That same one now is 1199.00.What the heck happened?

Best thing to do after buying a cheap box blade is to weld reinforcements and hitch frame before it bends. So much easier fix before a bend. Add a receiver hitch or tool pockets. Box blade now stores the hitch crane. After buying Land Plane hadn’t used the box or grader blade. View attachment 812366

I'd like to add a receiver tube to my 5.5' box blade. It would be easier for me to cut a hole in the rear blade and run it through to the front cross member, but I"m wondering if that is going to weaken the blade?

This is what I did when I bought it.
If anything it made it stronger.

That's what I want to do. I see what looks like a reinforcement gusset on the outside. What thickness did you use? Did you also place a gusset on the inside of the blade?

Fishplate on outside is 1/4”.
Although it probably didn’t need it, I thought it looked good. Inside is just welded.
I purchased the receiver tube at harbor freight.

Good buy.
I searched for one for years in the DC area before I found on at an acceptable price and condition. Down in Mississippi the used ones for sale were always rusted out.
