Boomer 40 rear wheels are not configured for any added wheel weights. No holes in wheels. For snowplowing I wanted to have added weight besides rear back blade to compensate for a loader full of wet snow. That's why I needed tire ballast...it was my only option.

Hello and good afternoon RustyA,
Is this something you are contemplating doing or have you done this already?
Do you know how much torque your final drive will give you through the transmission to the axle shafts on the model 40 tractor? You have to be sure that the axles will slip enough to prevent any damage to the final drive.
using 2 or 4 link ladder chains it will give you the ability to slip to avoid causing possible damage to the the rear axle.
Do you have clearance on the front axle to install front snow chains as well as rear chains??
I have had windshield washer fluid in the JD LA115 lawn mower now for 6 years.
Before I loaded the rears I found it was worthless in snow even with my fat backside and two 42 pound wheel weights on it before I filled it with a tire filling valve and a funnel attached to a piece of garden hose.
The 4 link V bar chains are less expensive than the heavy European snow and ice chains.
Have you looked at the European snow an ice chains at all??? they are pricey but they are really effective in plowing snow and working on ice.
Even with 2 link ladder snow chains you will have plenty of traction.
