Filling tires with WW fluid

I would use RG without question if money was not an issue. And how cold is cold where you are?

WTF? The OP is in MI. That's the American version of Siberia. Pretty much anything north of KY is Siberia.

Prolly the only place worse than Siberia is, I don't know, maybe Canada???

I remember around 73 being stuck at the Holiday Inn, during a Blizzard in Flint, on our way supposedly South during March Break. We had pretty much packed clothing for a warm destination. Siberia indeed!

Thanks for all the input gentlemen.

BTW, I have lived in northern MI for 6 years and the coldest so far has been -35F. No way I will be using the tractor at anything close to that temperature. The tractor is stored in an unheated garage so it will see some cold.

I need 22 gallons per rear tire and I was hoping RimGuard was available in 5 gal pails for the home market. I will so some calling around and see if anyone will sell it to me at a reasonable price. Maybe $6/gal installed is not as bad as I first thought. I guess if I want it I will need to see the dealer.

instead of asking questions on an internet forum, you and your tractor should be at the dealership getting it's tires filled with Rimguard.

If filling your tires is the question, the answer is yes.

If filling your tires with what? is the question, the answer is Rimguard. (Unless you live in the south where RG doesn't exist.)

If I could get it, I'd fill my tires (front and back) with RG today!

I called the nearest Rimguard dealer (over 100 miles away) for installed Rimguard cost .... $435.60 (including $75 each tire installation)..... v/s WW fluid installed by me, at $137.20
I will absolutely take your Rimguard advice, if you will please send me a money order for the $298.40 difference.

It's not the $/gallon, it's the dollars/lb. Rim guard is still a good deal - especially against wheel weights. The 100 miles one way is a deal breaker; the closest to me is just over 125 miles one way.

Why RG won't sell it in 55 gallon barrels is beyond retarded.

Value in $/lb winner in WW fluid when using the table referenced in post #10.
30% more weight of Rim-guard (beet juice) will cost a lot more than 30% more money.
Then again, if you need maximum weight, you have to pay the piper.

It seems like a proprietary, maybe franchise thing. But hey, it's beat juice. Can't one get that elsewhere?

Consider that rimguard says their stuff is good to -35F; typical WW fluid isn't good much below 32F unless it specifically states it's for low temperature, and then the low temp stuff is good to -20 to -30F (Prestone's winter stuff is -27F, but looks to be about $5/g), so make sure that what you're putting in tires for Michigan will stand up to your expected lows - you may find that the severe cold ready fluids are about the same price as the RG (though travel & installation will still probably make that cost more).

Another aspect in the WW fluid vs RG could be toxicity. RG definitely isn't toxic; what you put in your tires to get to -35F may be, depending; consider if you do flat, where that fluid's going to be dumping out and what it may do to your lawn/creek/pasture/manure pile/dump...

I heard years ago, Soviet fighter pilots would declare having used their de-icing fluid but would actually have drank it. Maybe there is some big surplus supply of that around.
