I cannot find the thread What are the brake problems That Mscott is talking about. You can download the service manual from sundowner for like $80. I have it. I will try to find it. It is way to big to send over an e mail. I could probably send a disk through the mail.

Wow, Clint S, we don't need the whole manual, just the parts that tell us how to replace that boot. Hope you can find your manual and find that info. Thanks for the heads up about Sundowner. If pages you find prove to be a help, we will probably go to Sundowner to download the whole manual!

There is no real info on how to replace the boots just an exploded parts break down,.

Thanks, Clint, we already have the the exploded view of all the parts along with a sheet that tells what each part is. Thank you for taking the time to look into it.

Probably a little late but changing the boot is not that hard. Although it could have been designed a little better. First jack up the rear of the tractor. Remove the rear wheel. Take the brake linkage from the pedal loose. Remove hydraulic line running to rear brake hub. Remove the bolts holding the hub to the rear axel ( I think there is 9 or 10). Remove the clamp and the 2 bolts holding on the boot. Pull the brake hub and axel shaft out of rear axel housing. Careful it is heavy. You do not have to remove it completely if you don't want to just prop it up on a sturdy block. You just need it far enough out to get the brake shaft loose and remove the boot. Then put it all back together. Before you reconnect the linkage make sure the brake shaft is locked back in to the brake hub or you will find you have no brakes on that side. Just turn the shaft back and forth till it locks in.

Thanks, Swamptractor. Your reply is not late and is a great help. We've been trying to stop the leaking with various tapes and coatings (while trying to find out how to replace the boots) but the hydraulic fluid eats through, or softens up, everything we've tried. We did not want to get into a situation where we would be ignorant of things to look out for, or be careful of, and then screw up the replacement job and have to wait for a part or get a special tool.

Ten months later and we have replaced the brake boots WITHOUT REMOVING THE WHEELS. Additionally, we fabricated a moveable covers out of a truck tire inner tube to protect the boots from damaging sun rays. Brakes works great! Hydraulics work great! And we're not buying hydraulic oil like it is going out of style!
