My NOS Everlast arrived today figured if give it alittle review first impression type thing. Little background on me I am a fabricator and have been welding for 14 years now. I specialize in stainless steel and aluminum and mostly run P-GMAW or GTAW but not much SMAW, I have however certified on stick in the past so I do have experience in that.

First impressions are that it's not too cheap looking not nearly as bad as anything that would come out of Habor Freight. I was disappointed it didn't come with a plug of any sort and I personally don't like the clamp type electrode holder it comes with but neither is a big deal. It seems a good deal heavier than my father's Maxstar but I can't say for sure till I get them side by side.

Started out throwing a 110 volt plug on it and plugging it in on the counter and an anemic sounding fan came on along with the digital readout. Let it sit there and idle for awhile like shield arc suggested as a break in period/letting the caps normalize then took it out side and stuck it on a 220 volt line and man did that fan pick up suprised me the difference it made.

Let it sit another 20 mins or so then started burning a few rods, I was very happy with the performance of this machine. It starts well and I really like the arc characteristics it presents, I was running Lincon Excalibur rods 3/32 which isn't exactly my favorite rods and they have been sitting out but I still managed a few peelers. Ran some uphill but forgot to take some pics but got some shots of the flats and sad attempt at a J weave. Tomorrow I'm going to try and get a few bits of stainless from work and play with the tig rig some.

Knocked out alittle project my wife had been me about little mig welder I had just didn't have the umph needed. Ran 6013s on the and they ran just fine as well.

For the cost of these Everlast welders, I think they have a fantastic arc! Every one of them I've run, I've been very impressed with!

I'm having trouble with vertical heavy rust metal running 6011.

Try running a U pattern. When doing the legs of the U, have a longer arc length. This will cut through the rust.
When doing the bottom of the U, have a short arc length so the puddle will fill.

Thanks. You make it sound so easy.

Seems like the puddle never really forms very defined. I've tried multiple amperage, dragging, pushing, circles, whip, etc.

I moved to some new, clean metal to lay a bead just to make sure it wasn't the machine and I got a nice bead. I tried. 1/8 and 3/32 to see if it was too much heat but the arc wants to drop out constantly. I pretty much have to be touching the weld the whole time or I love the arc.

The metal is quite bad but I've cleaned it up as much as possible. It did seem easier to make a better pass on flat as opposed to vertical. Lots of dripping metal and some birn through.

This is all new to me and I'm afraid I'm bringing habits from fcaw wire feed and expecting those results.

I've asked an acquaintance who's a welder by trade to come by when he gets time to help so maybe that will get me further.

I've had real good luck with Hobart's 335A 6011.

You can tig with it just fine only scratch start. Either Koua I or Shield Arc will demonstrate whoever gets to it first. Those welds made were done at work on my Syncrowave just to show what I do most days.

What he said and in the case of the Everlast in question you'll have to replace the electrode holder with the clamp style pictured above.
