There are PTZ cameras that are small and fairly inexpensive. These are more oriented towards home or business and would require a decent size battery for an extended amount of power. Most PTZ cameras that do auto tracking are not done within the camera itself. You can set the software trip wires within the camera, but the NVR software on a mini computer is what will usually control the auto track of the PTZ motion. I have several PTZ cameras that I have auto tracking setup on. And, they do it very well. You will also have the issue of night time illumination. I am not talking bright white lights, I am talking infrared illumination so the camera can see in the dark to detect someone or something entering the trip wire zone of the camera. Ideally, you want infrared illumination that will extend to a minimum of 200'. It would need to be mounted on the outside of the tractor glass. You will also need several spotter cams that have no PTZ function, but are a fixed focal range with their own tripwire functions built into them, monitoring a different zone. These small spotter cams will alert the PTZ cam that they have motion detected in their viewing zone and tell the PTZ to swing around, to their zone, zoom in and focus on the moving object and track it. These can be inexpensive cams, but to put together a system that would do what you want, you are now looking at costs around $1000 and up. I don't believe there is a stand alone plug and play type of system available.
Then, you have to know how to program the NVR to do what you want with the PTZ camera.
Most big box store camera systems have very small CCD sensors in them. The picture looks great during the daytime, but at night, all you get is pixelation, motion blur and ghosting effects. You really need a minimum of 1 1/8 CCD in the camera and a lower megapixel count for good nighttime image capture. (2MP-4MP) Otherwise, you get a picture like shown on the news: A very pixelated blob that looks like a character from a 8 bit video game from the 1990's, asking: Can you help identify this person?
