Oil & Fuel Engine Oil

   / Engine Oil #11
I bought a used Kubota L3430 a couple of months ago. This is my first Kubota, not my first tractor. I am going to change the oil. The manual says use 10W30 or 10W40 CD CE or CF. This sounds like just regular off the shelf oil. I thought diesel engines required a specialty oil like Rotella. Is the Kubota oil you buy at the dealer anything special or just oil in a Kubota container for twice as much money? What type oil do you guys use? Is Rotella a good alternative?

I would use a CD rated oils ( VIS depends on your expected operating temperatures) because your DIESEL is indirect injection guessing by age needing the higher .5% sulfur for lubrication. Even "farm" diesel is now at only.015 PPM of sulfur and if you don't add an agent for lubrisity you stand a chance of sticking valves and over fueling injectors leading to cylinder washout. If you start using CJ rated oils start checking your fuel tank for "black" fuel. This means your injector o-rings have failed to seal returning over fueling to tank. Check to see if you have a return fuel line on your particular engine, if not, you will just wash your cylinder walls with excessive diesel fuel/oil at this pont in the story if your injectors won't seal off during fueling. Sulfur was diesel's friend, going green was not...

I would just use a diesel rated synthetic. I use 5w30 Amsoil cause I use it to plow snow and have a lot of cold starts. In your state heat is a factor. 5w 40 Mobil should work good. Some say Kubota oil is different but I don't see how it could matter much. I might go to a cheaper synthetic cause Amsoil seems overkill for my bota 7510.

Doesn't work like that. Each category is for it's specific engine type. Just because a oil is C rated does not make it suitable for engines calling for a S category oil. There are some C category oils that are very unsuitable for gasoline engines. And the letters actually stand for: S = Service and C = Commercial. It's just easier to remember S for Spark and C for Compression.

Actually you can. I was keeping it simple. Do you want to buy some LE?

What is a good diesel additive for lubricity in my o6 bota and 2000 powerstroke??
