Hi One
Did you understand what I was talking about?
The side grinder Has a slitter or speedy cut blade.
The blade is about 1/32 thick grinding cut off type blade.
Will cut anything Hardened Steel ,Stainless steel.
Just don't get anything in the way you don't want cut.

I didn't get my gears yet.
He was having a problem with the dead end broach.
So he had to order a new one.

Nice photos - they show what you are talking about. Glad to see you wearing all that safety gear - this sets a good example for all others who may see this post. No project is ever worth getting hurt over. Show us a photo of a finished gear when you get them back.

Well they got the gears made
But have been waiting on the guy to harden them for 2 weeks.
I talked him today and he is covered up with Thanksgiving shut downs.
So I don't know when I'll get them. :mur:

Temps here today in NE Ohio were upper 60s. Cut lawn one last time and ran Gravely one last time until Spring. Tomorrow, mower goes into the shed and the snowblower comes out.

Hi one
Well The owner of the C10 tractor has decided to go a head and use the gear.
We had made and hardened a while back.
It is a good gear so we are going to go with it.
So I will be try it out in a few days.
I have been working on a jig so I can drill the Kohler adapters
to fit the L type Transmissions.
As soon as I get though with this one
I plan to start on a C8 Clean and paint.
And put a Honda on it .
By that time maybe they will get me my gears.

Hey Bruce. Looks like you're keeping busy, as usual. Be sure to post some pictures as your projects progress. I would be interested seeing a drawing of the adapter plate as laid out for an L, or in this case a C.

Hi One

Well the C10 is done as for as the conversion to Honda 11 hp
Set the gov at 2700 rpm.
Runs out Good
We didn't clean it up and or paint this one.
He is going to run it a while to see how it checks over a time.

Thanks Bruce g

Nice job, Bruce. By the way, exactly how do you set the governed speed on the Honda or clones? I'm going to have to do this next Spring on mine.

I'd like to wish you and all the contributors to this long running thread a happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving One

You need a way reading your Rpm.
There is a screw stop on the throttle lever you pull it wide open
Screw the screw in until you can only run at you rpm you want .
I set this C10 at 2700.
I use a Briggs Whisker They used to sell.
I don't know if they still sell them or not?
Here is a picture of the C10 with new adapter
we didn't clean it up.
Also here is a pic of my Tractor
from 8123 to 8243 Honda powered

Well got the sun gears today for L ,C8 C10 models
They look good.
They are high I will have to sell the gear for 150. and the top hat 20.
I had planed to sell them both for 150. but he went up 25.
I have to have a thick adapter plate yet for the L and C8.
The C10 are a different depth into the trans.
The C10 spacer is 1.590 thick I have to use a 2 inch thick material.
The L and C8 are 2.130 so I can't make from a 2 inch thick piece?????
still trying to see what can come up with.
The C10A ,500, 5000 and later are 1.115 Thick
I make those from 1.500 material
The Briggs and all the 3.00 long cranks are 3/4 in shorter.
The Honda And the Clones are 3 3/4 long
I hope this info helps
when you decide to re power.

Thanks Bruce g

Hey Bruce - can an L or C8 spacer be made from two pieces - 1" & 1.5" (or 1.25") with latter machined down to 1.13. Total space would then be 2.13". I'm not a machinist so this is just a thought.

/ Engine ideas #291
What you are thinking is about the same I am thinking.
The 008 adapter I make for the C10A 500 & 5000 is 1.115
So I can make another to take up the difference. about 1.011 thick.
So That will work, & I can get both pieces from 1 1/2 material
So I would need 2 pieces, Gear, and top hat.
I am going to see if I can fine some thicker material
In the mean time I will just make two pieces.

You put a frowny face next to using two spacers. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. Yeah, one piece would be better but so what if its two? It'll work just fine.

Are you going to make the top hat for the L any longer than the one in the picture? Based on my experience I think longer is better because the load of the planetary is spread over a larger area. Of course I've been wrong many times before!

They are the same size as the one
Gravely made for the late models except the large dia.
These are .100 smaller.
I could make it longer but it is in almost 3/4 inch.

Well it came down to this.
I made a Catalog of information.
I hope this helps to see the difference
Between repowering Gravely tractors
There maybe some things wrong ???
This is a list as best I know it as of right now 11 Dec 2010
Thanks a lot for Ideas and help.

What seems like only a few months ago I posted a picture of my C8 re-power as taken from my garage (1st picture below). The next two pictures show the scene outside my garage this evening. There's about 16" of snow on the ground give or take a few. My son is using my 1976 MTD snow blower to clear the driveway. I bought this from a widow a few years back for $150. It has an 8 HP winterized B&S engine which still runs strong, as does the original 120V Bendix starter. I'm thinking if the engine ever dies I just might try to make it into a Gravely attachment...

I like the looks of your tractor it look great:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Makes me feel good to have a very small part in some thing good.:D

I got some more pictures of the L model, C8 & C10 Gear .
I also sanded the out side a little to make look better.

That snow blower would work good at least you would have more power if it would be strong enough to handle
The gravely.

Hi! You know ! Gravely snowblowers are the best you can find on two-wheels. This is a good reason for fit a new engine on old Gravely. You cannot find a better . I seen a 12 hp Gravely Blow snow over 40-60 ft. away. I take a pict. But Not easy! you can fit any snowblower front end on Gravely because same rotation. I fit a Toro snowblower on my Grillo . I use quick-hitch adapter I join pics. Good Luck and Happy New Year Everybody. Oldmech

Nice job fitting the Toro on the Grillo! I see you used a flexible shaft connector - kind of like you did when you fit your Diesel engine on your L. Very clever!
