Electricity install in barn

/ Electricity install in barn #11
All good answers .
120V only at the barn is not going to save time, money or effort. And someday, somebody will curse you for not running 240V. Run cable inside conduit. Barn will require two ground rods or a ground plate buried 8ft or deeper. Run bare number six copper to the barn's ground bar and also tie it to the bare ground wire pulled in from the house.
As stated numerous times before . The neutral bar in the barn panel must float isolated from the barn's ground.

Under 100 amps only 1 ground rod is required. Good catch about separating grounds and neutrals. I forgot to mention that. Remember to run 3 wires for 120 or 4 wires for 240 volt systems.

I hope some of the electricians on here chime in. First I am not an electrician but do not mix water in the same trench with the electrical.

Also, the voltage drop on that run will make 50 amps at the house drop to around 30 at the barn (just a rough guess). .

It does rain outside. As said water lines are deeper due to frost then electrical. If using a trencher, I would go as deep as I could for both.

Also as said, you need to use bigger wire to accomadate voltage drop.

Since it is so far, I would install more then you plan on using now. You could go with a simple 4 circuit panel, no main required. I like having my outlets and power on different circuits. So once I have lights up, I can work on power. Plus if you trip a breaker, you still have lights.

You will need to isolate ground from neutral at the subpanel.

If running conduit limit the 90s, code prohibits 4, if I remember right. Plus tough to pull.
