Well maybe this will make you feel better-the GM Silverado pickups were just named Truck of the Year at the North american Auto Show and Dodge Ram 1500 was named Truck of the Year by Motor Trend magazine for the second year in a row... which just shows all three manufacturers are building good trucks...

Wow! And ford has their self awarded "best selling truck" because it's the cheapest award...

Actually I think the F-150 IS the best selling truck in the Northwest. Personally think the new F-150s are really a good looking truck and really nicely appointed interiors. And the Eco boosts power #s are for real.

It would be a boring world if everyone drove the same truck...

I also agree that getting over 20 MPG on winter gas is really good mileage- and most trucks suffer once @ 70 mph and above

Back from my trip for those who care. One pic is from the entire trip and the other is an hour at 68.4 mph. Hopefully not upside again. 20.6 at 68 mph on winter gas isn't a bad number but I am sure some won't be impressed. I have checked every tank and the trip computer is always plus or minus .1 on hand calculation. I had a couple tanks it was off by .2 mpg.
The one hour reading was 100% interstate. The total trip included some two lane, parking lots and a drive thru restaurant.

I think your mileage numbers are impressive. Ford's come a long way. My 02 F150 with a 5.4 & 3.73 and heavy payload pkg could get 15-16 mpg if I babied it on the highway in the summer. In the winter 13 mpg was a typical tank for running unloaded. My 07 with a 5.4 & 3.55 does a little better and will run 17-18 in summer if I run it easy and all highway. It can hit 15s in the winter unloaded.

Ford F150s have been good to me. My current one is still short of 100,000 miles, but I've bought 3 new ones since 1989 that I've run up as high as 200,000 miles without any serious problems. Shoot, its likely that my next one will be one of the new aluminum bodied ones with ecoboost in a couple of years.......it's definitely another step forward from what I started with 25 years ago.

Thanks for the positive comments. I hate this winter gas. Changes my city numbers the most. I typically get about 16.5 running back and forth to work which is all city in the summer. Goes down to about 15 in the winter.

This is the first F150 I have owned. May or may not be my last, just depends on what is available when I am ready to buy again. These new 2015's look interesting and I will enjoy watching them to see if they will be as successful as these current years. That 2.7 liter ecoboost will be competing against the ford 5.0 and the GM 5.3 motors and finally separate the 3.5 liter ecoboost for the heavy work.

What's impressive is the numbers were at 75 mph. Trucks drop off big time much above 60-65. Thanks for posting and I AM impressed.

I agree and am happy with what it gets. In town, it is really variable based on how you drive. If i had the patience, I can get 17.5 driving around town. This involves a lot of coasting (not braking) and getting it in 5th or 6th gear somewhat quickly. The full lean while coasting in gear is the biggest factor. Drops to 15.5 to 16 if not conserving.

Just filled up this afternoon and hand calculated my mileage and took photos just in case someone cared about the accuracy of my computer. I always do a double click on the pump after it has shut itself off. Two hundredths of a gallon surprised me when i started the truck.

I have found the economy meters very accurate in all my Fords, GM's, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, BMW, ect.

Now my one and only Dodge was not even close. It always was around 3 mpg off and it was not in my favor.

Pumping gas is one of the few times I have to catch up on TBN. Haven't blown anything up yet. LOL:laughing:

We've had a few guys around here take the ecoboost back for the 5.0 coyote motor. They say the mileage difference isnt enough to justify the extra money of the turbo v6. Also, they are having issues with turbochargers and exhaust temp issues when towing. One guy has been pulling nonstop since the truck was new and is having blow by issues already.(60000 miles) Remember, your working that little motor allot harder to get the same power of the v8. The three trucks that were returned to the dealership in favor of the v8 model were running okay, just the owners werent happy.

Interesting. I didn't realize you could return a truck.

I agree that the mileage difference isn't noticeable but it sure is between the ecoboost and the 6.2 liter.

What issues are they reporting with the turbos?

There is no comparison in towing performance between the 5.0 and the ecoboost.

All the vehicles I have owned, about 25, with most being Ford were dead on. Never more than .2 mpg off. The exception was my one Dodge. It was off not in my favor by more than 2 mpg. I have also had 4 GM'S, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW, ect that were all very accurate.

I think (or thought) most vehicles were pretty accurate now-a-days. My '01 Ford Ranger and '02 Ford Crown Vic seem to be accurate. But that certainly wasn't the case many, many years ago. When I started in law enforcement (1964), we had all Fords and the shop put a sticker on the dash of each one showing true speed at different speedometer readings. I don't remember for sure when they quit using those stickers, but it was late '60s or early '70s.

It's a little known fact that MOST manufacturers will undersized tires on trucks to boost towing capacity while slightly sacrificing the odometer numbers.

Ie; 4.10 axle requires 32" tires to get an accurate
speedo so they put 31" tires on to boost tow
numbers and still be close to accurate.

Don't believe me...take a new truck for a ride with a hand held GPS unit; or even better get a police officer buddy to clock you on their radar.

An aftermarket programmer will fix this

I'm not sure exactly how accurate that is, but it's close enough for me, and that's what I've normally used myself.

Vw's are notoriously off by 10kmh or so. Our explorer was off by 12Kmh, but the odometer was bang on....

I think the MPG read out in the F-150 is more accurate than doing it buy hand. I have checked it a couple of times and it has been within .1. I think the difference is I may not be getting the tank filled to the same level every time so the hand calculating is less accurate.

I the speedo is accurate.

When I got a GPS, I found that there was a 3 MPH difference between the speedometer and the GPS on my 2007 Jeep Liberty. Then I noticed the same thing on 2 rental cars, and on my '96 Silverado. I thought maybe it was the GPS, but then I ran through one of those speed checker/warning things, where they have a radar gun setup with a sign that says "Speed limit XX Your Speed YY". Matched the GPS exactly. Since then,and as late as today, I have been through a few more of them, and the speed always agrees with the GPS. Makes me wonder if there is some kind of deliberate error built in to the speedometers to fudge the mileage ratings, or maybe by secret government mandate to slow people down a couple MPH. Same error on 4 different vehicles seems a little to much of a coincidence. IF the GPS is accurate, all those vehicles read 3 MPH slow.
