I guess EOCS is the same as not having much "give a ship".

I walked out on a car sales lady recently. Thought we had a price agreed, they printed up the paperwork, the price was $2k more. I asked her ,she said "you don't qualify for all the rebates". Then she said very sarcastically, "didn't you read the disclaimer, it was all in the disclaimer."

I just said I don't do business this way. Got up and walked out. I had my keys with me. I seldom trade.

I beat their price, and told her later that i beat it.

Never argue with an idiot, they will only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. (This was on my wall at work - jest read the posts and see Hawkeye08 already posted this - worth repeating)

I had a 98 jeep wrangler for 12 years....I don't even know what a whatever cuntry lift even is....

My daughter said just last week "dad, don't be that grumpy guy"...over a stupid cashier i was telling her about. .....

In the last year I have noticed my tolerance level has dropped A LOT...

The only reason some people are alive is because it's illegal to kill them....

Deep breath, I'm done.

I've never suffered fools well and am generally considered cheap and grumpy. Imagine this then, how am I going to make it until my four year old son moves out of the house. I'm 52...

About 26 years ago I worked with an idiot that didn't know how to give a straight answer. I'd ask a pertinent question and he would reply "why?", as in why did you ask me that question. One day I asked, when are you going to be finished with that bandsaw and he replied "why?". My reply was this in a very loud voice, "listen man, obviously I need the saw! If you're going to ask me why I'm asking you a question every time I ask you one we're never going to get anything done around here! Just answer the @*$%# question!

I've always been a curmudgeon.

Our oldest son (15, almost 16, my step son) is bad about that.... and knows it gets on my nerves so he does it more.

My tolerance is used up on our kids... so for the rest of the world, sorry about yer luck, don't p!$$ me off.

Logically people aged 50 + are generally dumber than the younger generation because of improvements in recent decades on health and safety requirements, such as improvements in diets, banning of lead in petrol and paints and so on. So, please remember that the young irritating salesman knew your needs better than you but you weren't intelligent enough to understand this. Hoping this post will change you from a grumpy curmudgeon to a happy blithering idiot that always believes whatever the last person told you.

Thanks, I feel much better now that my condition has been explained.

The warning symptoms of EOCS often manifest with a bad case of CRS (Can't Remember ****) and often SHOS (Selective Hearing Of Spouse). I've found evidence of all 3 in my life...

Car "salesmen" don't count as their influence strategies are older than you are!

Why a "salesman" with no base salary who has to work nights and weekends by standing around waiting for people to walk in think they are something, I've never figured out.

Met quite a few that thought they were all that and a bag of chips. I don't get it

Had an old roommate that tried his hand at car sales. Couldn't fathom why someone would do it. They get 100$ for a new car sale. They get a draw of 400$ per week if they don't sell anything, that they have to pay back out of there commissions. He spent 60 hours a week at the dealership for a perpetual $400 a week pay check. That's right at $6.66/ hour :mur:

Salesman of any sort are hard to deal with in the first place.

I suffer from EOCS, I'm only 55 and I'm a crotchety curmudgeon, have been for years. Usually embarrass my kids when we go out somewhere, hard to tolerate today's folk, lack of manners, civility, respect and customer service. Not to mention the lost art of proper driving. My kids think I'm like Lewis Black (comedian) but not that funny. I think I was born 50 years to late.

Obviously you have never met me. :) All I try to do is educate seniors what their Medicare options are. If they buy something off of me, Great!. If they don't, they are still a lot better informed after they have listened to me than they were before I met them. :)

Sorry, if it's a 20-something male with a neck beard and man bun, I'm not believing anything he says.

Funny thing is my teenage kids make fun of them as well.

James, that sounds like my youngest brother. He used to be a Chevrolet/Buick/RV salesman at a dealership, and later was a Matco Tool Distributor. As a car and RV salesman, he was their top salesman from the first month he was there, and he was successful as a Matco distributor. And I always suspected the reason was that he liked to visit with people and answer questions, but I never knew of him to try to sell anyone anything.

And now, unlike every other car dealer in this area, my local Ford dealer is the same way. I've bought 3 vehicles from them, but the salesmen have never tried to "sell" anything. They're just around to visit and answer questions. And I know that dealership has been there and salesmen have worked like that for more than 50 years in that dealership.

Exactly. People don't like to be pushed around and told what to think by a salesperson. Answer their questions and be fair with them and you have a lot better chance of doing business with them.

A problem is that a lot of people don't realize when they are being pushed around by salespeople. They often ASSUME the salesperson is very knowledgeable about the product that is being sold.

Often I've gone with someone shopping for a major purchase and have heard outright falsehoods while the salesperson tries to close a sale. It's difficult to tell if the salesperson is misstating the truth on purpose and SWMBO always complains "that he just did not know, he wasn't lying".

When I was REAL young it was "don't trust strangers"
Then it became "don't trust anyone over 30"
By the time I became 30 it went to "trust everybody to do what is in THEIR best self interest" and "Trust but verify".

Car salespersons, especially USED car salespersons are usually trying to sell you something you don't NEED so they make more money which they NEED.

"This car will do 120" - How often do you need to do 120?
