Thanks. The trailer will hold 8000lbs...so that's about 4X what a pickup will hold. I like that polyethelyne dump liner /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

thought this adapter might work if you can understand this crappy drawing I through together

I figure if the trailer has a standard 2 in ball tongue. you could take a standard slide in put a 2 inch ball on it and weld a steel plate across the bottom, put a heavy duty U- Bolt on it and hook the U-Bolt on one of the teeth on the back-hoe and tow it away.

I admit it seems to simple to work but it just might do the job

Mad,

I think the concensus is that towing a heavy trailer (7-8,000lbs) with the backhoe dipper stick is not considered a good idea. The forces on the hoe without the stabilizers down will be too great. The guys who do it currently claim it's pretty easy and the jack-knife potential is low. ALSO...I can tie into the front hydraulics and dump the trailer from the seat so I don't wear the battery down. I guess the battery is good for 12 dumps per charge.

The latest idea (I posted the same question in the General Discussion group) is that the trailer is to be pushed with a quick-attach ball for the loader. That way I can use the hoe to fill the trailer, then spin around and lock into the ball and push it to the dump location .

I've got a 12' x 6' dump trailer and I've moved a few loads of dirt, rocks, stumps etc. with it. It sounds like you will be moving over some soft uneven terrain, so trying to push it might be difficult. Even pulling a loaded trailer through the terrain you described might be more than you realize and will pound the snot out of your new dump trailer. Any chance of using your dump trailer to haul some crushed stone in to make a road over the rough areas so you can use your truck? You'll be surprised how cheap stone is when you haul it yourself, especially if you have a quarry nearby. You should be able to get 4 ton for around a $20 bill.

Jim,
If I may make a suggestion. See if the company you are buying your dump trailer from will add a second cylinder. You will get much greater lift capacity and you won't have to worry as much about the possibility of the bed twisting on you. When I bought the trailer, the owner told me this was a problem with the trailers with one cylinder. I have the same size trailer and I don't regret having the second cylinder added. It cost me $200 3 years ago and was well worth the cost.

Jim, here's the ATV Wagon made by Bosski. It was $1150. I didn't go to them, but my Google search listed some reviews re. this brand on off-road.com TBN member Scrounger writes some reviews for them, but don't know if he's familiar with this product.

Echoing some concerns above, I'd be pretty nervous trying to push 4 tons of material in a trailer over soft and bumpy terrain. Good luck with your project. Hope this info. is helpful.

Thanks Tom - those trailers look very cool. I have looked at the ATV type trailers before and wasn't really all that impressed with them. The Bosski looks more heavy duty than most of the trailers of that type I have seen.
I was sort of thinking of making something like the Bosski myself - but making it a little more heavy duty and as more of dirt hauler than anything else. I just have too many projects on my plate though so I don't really have the time for it.
