Dump Trailer / Backhoe Conunbrum

Last time I looked, those dump trailers start at maybe $3,000 and go up from there. You don't have to go a whole lot more than that to buy a beater single-axle dump truck. If you can locate one with decent mechanicals, it would probably serve your needs even better than the trailer, and you can probably sell it later for about what it cost you. Just another option for you to think about.

Yep, definite possibility.

I'm dealing with a guy who sells them, but he wants to trade for my snowmobile. The trailer has a tag on it for $4600. I asked him to trade. Not sure what he's going to come back with.

If you could go with a smaller size, I recently saw a small but heavy duty dump trailer at a local trailer place. It's about 4' x 6' with large rugged looking ATV shaped tires and electric hydraulic lift. It was $1100 and looked like it could handle bumpy terrain well. I could go by and snap a picture of if you'd like. Let me know.

Find yourself an old 1-ton contractor dump truck. It would be cheaper and have more uses later, I'd bet.

I use a GN 22' flat bed for the tractor and Use a 6X10 dump trailer that I hook up to the back of the flat bed (it has a reciever hitch on it) and away I go. Looks like a train going down the road.

I would be interested in seeing some pictures of that dump trailer - and some info on who the manufacturer is too if you can get it. 4x6 sounds like a good size for my BX.

Jim, I have bx 2230 in which i got a 4x8 dump cart from ohio steel added my own cylinder and pluged it into my loader valve works like a dream.Could try to post pics if anybody want to see it .Iuse to dig graves in a tight cementary. mike ps: great site everbody enjoy reading every night.javascript:void(0)

Do you use the BX to dig or only to tow the trailer? If you're using the BX to dig, what implement are you using for the digging, a Woods BH6000 or something else? Pics would be appreciated.

Jim, I did a little browsing tonight because I've had a similar interest. If you own a pickup, here are a couple of possibilities.

Dump Pro has this unit which will fit into the bed of your truck and can be completely removed. It's basically an inner bed with an electric/hydraulic lift cylinder. The bed appears to be HDPE and has a 3000 lb. capacity. I don't know the price on this.

Northern Tool has conversion kits like this one for pickups or flatbeds. These are about $900/pickup (or $1400/flatbed) and turn your pickup bed into a dump bed with a 4000 lb. capacity. You also need a good liner and a body shop to install the conversion kit.

With either of these you'd want to be skilled and careful while loading, probably moreso than you'd be with just a trailer.

Although I don't own a pickup that dump bed is pretty cool. I would still be interested in the pics of the trailer if you can get to it. I started thinking of a trailer because I have been doing a lot of digging with my BX and hauling the dirt back and forth in the FEL takes a lot of time. Having a trailer that I could haul multiple FEL bucket loads of dirt in would speed up the process some.
