My son purchased 10 acres and now wants to build on it. Most is cleared and cut. Septic drainfields have been platted on survey. What I need to know now is: Who would I contact to have someone look at the property and give advice as to where the house should be located, the barn, well for both and other features of the build.
Also would like advice as to how the land should be graded for a site build. Son has the plans for the house he and wife want but not sure as to the best location for view, ease of construction, drainage for driveway, driveway, etc. Land is not in a town per-say but not in the boondocks either.
Any help is appreciated, just as long as the company isn't called Dewey, Cheetham & Howe.

Where in Western NC are you? I know some builders around Polk county that I could refer.

The property is cleared as we have been working on it for a year now and have logged it and cleared it all. Now just brushhog the place and camp with the grandkids.
Need advice before I rent a dozier and try myself to re-contour the area. That is a scary thought if you knew my ability with equipment.

contact a surveyor
We have a survey and a platt recorded with boundreys marked and septic drain fields marked, what i need is advice as to where and how the proposed house should go and what can be done with the land to make it fit the design. Do I need a design landscaper or a landscape architect or just contact county extension field rep?

cost of running utilities, drive way and fencing house from feild can get very expensive.look at elevation for runoff from house. find out details from electric company about cost above or below ground service line.it normally follows the driveway.find the cost of gravel

Southern exposures will receive the most sunlight and northern exposures will receive the least.

Try to position the house with as little northern exposure as possible, while at the same time providing for proper drainage, egress, minimal contour and slope changes, best view, etc.

Have your son really think this out. I bought an existing house that was built where the builder and surveyor got approval for the subdivision and it is in a stupid spot. Kind of hard to move the house now. Really think this through: topography, exposure, driveway location for entering roadway, and even septic field. It is easier to have existing work redone than not be happy (like I am) with the location of the house for the next 50 years. I can not say it enough but really think this through. Good Luck.

Oh, by the way I agree a surveyor is the way to go. A good one that is.
