Dumb Idea (repeat ?)

Hey, I'm relatively new to this country living business.

My Deere '345 is way too small a machine to remove the snow on my 700' driveway, even if it has a front mounted blower. I bought it first, when I was living on the same proprty but on the old farmhouse with a 40 foot driveway.

I just find front mount a lot easier to use than rear mount. So, since I had a rear mount on my Kubota, I thought I'd ask if anybody had tried to do a conversion.

Goota do something with my spare time - stock markets are slow these days!

I think the front mount blower is a great idea. The front 3pt lift is the easy part. Getting a front pto is harder. I have a front electric clutch "pto" for my belly mower. But it turns at engine speed with a 6" pulley. Slowing it to 540rpm is problematic. Using a long shaft or belt from rear pto is probably more feasible.

Like you said...you've got to find something to do with your time.

Other people are doing it. I can't find it right now but a company made PTO's comming off from the engine. Not sure if its practical but look neat /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Think I'd prefer a front mounted snowblower.

The hydraulic drive would be easiest to set up and more usefull as the speed could be controlled. A mount on the front loader with bucket removed should not prove difficult to make.

Used to have a 1975 sears 16 horse tractor with a belt drive front mounted snow blower. It worked very well.

Highways departments in deep snow areas all have trucks with front mounted snow blowers.
