Draw Bar

Has anyone set up a 3PH drawbar to tow with? I am considering mounting one of these to my 3PH, (the one that is a flat bar in the middle 3/4 with holes drilled across it, and round bars on the ends to slip into the 3PH), attaching a hitch ball to the middle and using it to tow a dump trailer with. My concern is that the drawbar will rotate back and forth as I start out and stop, wearing out or breaking the ball or the hitch on the trailer. I know that putting a regular reciever type hitch on the 3PH is a better idea, but I am looking to save afew bucks. I was wondering if this would work or not. Thanks for your replies.

There are some very simple brackets that you can use to prevent the bar from rotating. Think they are pretty cheap. They have been discussed on here somewhere before....you may want to search to see if you can find the whole discussion.

Ron, don't feel bad; took me awhile to look it up. And probably the only reason I remembered it was because several years ago I didn't know about those locks or I would have bought one, but instead I made the contraption in the attached photo so I still use it.

Boy, you guys are good, and quick too. I just looked and found one of the drawbar locks in a TSC catalog, but it was $29.95. Where do they sell the ones for $12? Thanks a lot everyone, I really appreciate it.

If you can't buy this locally at TSC or Quality Farm, you can call SpeeCo customer service at 1-800-525-8322, ask for Kelli and they will send direct {must be prepaid}.

I believe the price now is about $20. plus 5 or 6 shipping. {you only need one to lock the bar in place}

I made something using a spare top link. Just bent some 12mm (1/2 inch) threaded rod thru the spare end of the top link, and down into the 2 end holes of the drawbar.

Works better than the the bracket idea because I can tip the trailer back and the ball remains vertical.
