Is it as sound as the 5.9

Don't know, but Ford sure shot themselves in the foot by getting away from the proven 7.3 diesel. Todays news about Ford indicates they can't even get a loan at a pawn shop now. Had to put up everything they have to keep going. Hope Dodge does not end up in the same boat. I know vehicle co.s have to come up with new products to keep selling, But if it's not as good as what you already had ,what is the point.

Everyone had to change to meet the new emissions. I have read the new engine has been tested for a couple years in heavier trucks. JC

The Ford was a complete change.
The 6.7 isn't a big change as far as the basic engine goes.
It does have all of the new emmision stuff on it though.
Particulate filter etc.

The 6.7 Cummins engine is based on the 5.9
It is built by a Cummins/CNH/Iveco joint venture called EEA, European engine alliance.
It is used in the New Holland and Case tractors for about a year or two. Several truck manufacturers use these engines, badged either Cummins or Iveco. The new Holland TS-A series was the first to use the 4.5 liter 4 cylinder version of this engine.
Dutch truck manufacturer DAF, which is a subsidiary of Paccar which also holds Kenworth and Peterbilt, has Cummins build a version to Paccar specifications for their medium weight trucks up to 15 ton, built in Britain in the former Leyland plant. These trucks soon will hit the market in Mexico as Kenworth and Peterbilt, and assumed is that North America will follow within a year. The paccar brands also will get the 12.6 liter DAF XF engine, which is now sold with Paccar instead of a DAF badge.

Renze, you obviously know more about Peterbilt than I do and their headquarters is less than 10 miles from my house.:D And, of course, their website confirms what you just said.

Yeah, they were bailed out in the '70's by the federal government...remember?

And when International was bailed out by Navistar Investment Group. Luckily International bought back their own company and are now International again and not Navistar International.
