2025 Ram trucks

Trust me, the Rams (not “Dodge” for almost 15 years) are capable of towing far more than what they are rated for.
Ask me how I know….

An F-150 is a toy to me, so how they tow is of no consequence.
Certainly lots of pickups that have towed more than they're rated for. Believe me, I've done plenty. The fact remains, however, that manufacturers cannot keep increasing tow ratings with each new generation indefinitely. At some point, they'll have reached (or exceeded) the maximum that a vehicle of a given weight can safely tow. I believe that, in general, they are at that point now.

Nah, they can still go a little further, cause DOT is over 80,000 (my truck is 80,450) with an APU. Just have to make them a little heavier to handle that kind of weight!

I'm not following. What is an APU?

Auxiliary Power Unit. Trying to get truck owners to pony up for them, as they burn a gallon of fuel a night instead of a gallon an hour when running compared to the big engine up front.
To get more favor towards them, Lawmakers and the DOT gives an allowance for them in case drivers are overweight.

Ok. While interesting, that isn't really relevant. We're talking about light trucks, under 19,000 GVW.

4.89 rears are replaced by 4.44. That makes sense.

Call them what you want, today's pickups are a long way from my first pickup, a Chevy 3124 series truck.
Making heavier duty pickup trucks is just done to appease the buyers, and bumping up the tow ratings has been happening for years!

I applaud most of what I see. The regulations forcing emissions that are not realistic without excessive cost and shorter engine life are problematic. This should have been perfected by now. After 13 years, you’d think there would be a simpler, more durable emissions reduction system.

I really like that I can go down the road 45,000lbs + and then park in my garage or run to the supply store and park alongside cars in a truck that’s just a bit bigger than a pickup.
No, it won’t last as long as my bigger air braked trucks doing that, but I’m on 5 years of it and there’s no signs of any problems…..yet….;)

Yes it has, and again, they can't keep doing that forever. Eventually, either the truck is no longer a pickup sized vehicle, or they reach the maximum that a vehicle of that size can tow. Are you suggesting that they can keep raising tow rating indefinitely? So some day, we'll have half ton pickups that can tow 30K lbs, or 50K, or 100K? Sounds ridiculous, no? There is a top end, somewhere.
