After a lot of research, I made the decision to purchase an MR-145 (49") CCM tiller. It was shipped via lift-gate service and they dropped it off at the end of my driveway on a Friday just as I requested. Due to a busy weekend spent mostly in the office, I didn't get it unpacked, off the pallet and hauled up to the house until late on Sunday. It was fun watching the neighbors walking by and staring at it, trying to figure out what it was as it came wrapped in plastic. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I finally got the PTO shaft cut down, checked out all the lubricant levels (shipped all topped off), and hooked it up to my 2 year old BX-2200. First project was tilling up complete hardpan left over from last year's construction of a new detached garage. You know the stuff: contractor's skidsteer packed it down, everyone and his brother walking around it during construction, backfilled again with a skidsteer. Almost like concrete.
That CCM tiller had absolutely no problem with it. First pass about 2" or so. Second and third passes, it dug down to the shaft and tilled up finely pulverized black dirt (garage is on a former alfalfa field), with the very heavy rear gate smoothing it level. Then I went next door and tilled up the neighbor's garden for him. Beautiful seed bed.
Although the quality, heft, and good overall construction of the CCM tiller makes me doubt I'll ever need another one, I'd buy a second in a second from Carter and Carter. Their pre-sale information is great, they've obviously got a great product, and the price was great, too. I have no connection with Carter and Carter other than being a recent satisfied customer.
My only complaint is that the tiller orange needs just a tad more red in it to match the BX!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Now, I need to put the quick hitch on my Father's Day list.
