Sounds like a lift pump issue. Does it happen if first running tractor of after it has been running for done time. If it accrues after tractor has been running for a time if could indicate a tank vent problem as well. Next time it happens loosen fuel cap to see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't I would check the lift pump or kinked fuel line. Check the easy free stuff first.

It varies, first couple of times it did ok for a while, then got worse. Last time happened pretty quickly (although it was running while my neighbor tinkered with it). Couple of guys at work also thought it was a venting issue, so I will try it with a loose fuel cap to see how it goes.

This might sound odd, but try lifting your foot OFF the pedal some as you notice the RPMs drop.

Not much choice, will stall if I don't. Have to repeatedly push and let off to get up the slope.

Hmm...I read where at least one fuel filter was changed. Does this model have one filter or two? Typically diesel engines have at least two filters, the first being a fuel/water separator that filters down to 30-40 microns or so, followed by a secondary filter that screens down to 10 microns or less. Just wondering if there's another filter that's clogged.

Personally I've seen some really nasty crud in diesel tanks and filters. To completely rule out the fuel issue I'd drain and flush the tank, refill with fresh fuel, and try it again with new filters.

Does your fuel come from a petcock exiting the bottom of the tank. Could be a piece of debris blocking it as you start the climb?
