that the 7040 motor is in the 8540 9540 an 105 kubotas.the only differance is the motor is turned up an a bigger turbo is put on.i found that out talking to a buddy about turning my 7040 up.an he told me this info.

Sorry but your buddy is incorrect as M7040(203 cid) has a smaller engine than a M8540/M9540(230 cid)

You are correct, there are different engines between the 7040 and the 85/9540. If you look at the specs, the HP difference between the 8540 and the 9540 is pretty small. Its the same base engine in those two models with external variations.

The Question should be can you put the TURBO off of an 8540 on a 7040 as a direct bolt on or do do you have to modify it to fit if so what do you have to do to make it work?

Buy the bigger tractor. There will mods all through the drive line for the higher hp.

Why would you want to put the turbo on a 7040? I'm assuming the 7040 is a non-turbo? The turbo only adds 1 or 2 hp vs the non-turbo model (9540 vs 9540DT). The turbo is for pollution control, not horsepower. Personally, I'd prefer the non-turbo engine, you don't have to sit there and let it idle before shutting off to cool down the turbine bearings. YMMV.

Turbo is for power, way more than 1 or 2 and is not for pollution control

the 7040 has a turbo on it.but turning the motor up an changing the turbo would be cheaper than buying a new tractor unless you wanted a new tractor.the only reason i mentioned it is because it would be fun todo if you had the money an some1 you trusted todo it.

The newer 7040 may have a turbo to meet emmsions but the older ones do not
