Anyone running one or seen one working?
I'm in a very rocky area and only mulching up to about 6". This unit operates almost like a disc type chipper in that your not using the ground to mulch against. The chips seem big but that's not a problem as my work is more of a thinning stems in a forestry situation.
The link shows the operation.

I found a thread here from 2016 that was some help.

Yes have seen the disc style operating and they throw stuff a long ways. Watched CTL just drive through scrub brush that was probably 3 inch diameter and smaller. Estimate cutter head was less than 6 to 8 inches off the ground and seemed to chew that brush up pretty good.
Not sure if they would tolerate rocks any better than drum style though.

I assume you’re putting it on a CTL? A tractor isn’t up to the job. Those are definitely a hack it down tool and don’t do a very clean job. IMO all mulcher are a hack it down tool. You aren’t going to be doing the next cut with a lawnmower if that’s what you were expecting. They were like $22,000 a few years ago BTW.

Those heads are also pretty heavy. The one I saw was on Deere 333G if I remember correctly and the back end seemed to dance pretty easy

2400 pounds and it’s probably 7 feet long so that would be a pretty good load.

Definitely working on the flat or uphill would be the best.

Any of you guys seen the "paladin" FD-60 disc mulcher in action? I found one for $20k new. I'm noticing more of that style coming out from about 5 different manufacturers.

Now I need to build a serious door and wait for the snow to go away (spring time). The weight didn't bother my machine at all. Even on the pallet and being about 16" forward from the normal ssqa mounting.

Yes it's hi flow.
Just got in from plowing (snow mr Florida lineman)
It's that white stuff 😆
It'll be a few months before I get to try it thanks in part to the 12+" we just got. 👍
I've been jonesing to give it a spin.

It was 20 degrees last night here in North Florida, but no snow and for that I can live without.

Update, I have a new excavator and got this ssqa adapter for the mower.

Being mounted on the excavator will give me much better access to wet or otherwise un accessible areas and with about 30' of reach, cause much less ground disturbance.
I need to extend the line for the case drain down a couple of feet to the end of the stick and get the dealer to tune the hydraulic flow to the mulcher, hopefully I'll be mulching in a few weeks.

Nice looking setup. Is the glass in your cab impact rated for use with that head?

No, I need to add a screen.
After using it on the SS and watching the chips and sticks that fly away I'm mostly concerned about breaking the glass over having a large piece coming in the cab. I may have a big enough piece of 1/2" poly carbonate on hand vs. using expanded metal. There's also a factory upper front window and roof grate that I might check into. 👍

Lookin Good!
The excavator with the mulcher is the way to go, IMO
