This old tractor is not used for mowing anymore, just for pulling my wife's trailer around for barn cleaning, yard work etc. Lately it has developed a delayed response to throttle changes, if you try to increase revs it has about a 2-3 second delay before the engine responds and has the same delay when you decrease throttle. Anybody got any idea what this could be and how to fix it? Makes the tractor kind of irritating to use. Thanks!!

strong chance the throttle, cable is either loose or starting to melt.

Throttle assembly and cable all looks good. Got everything partially assembled now. Am trying to figure out how the governor works. I was thinking there would be a flapper and spring that was controlled by airflow, but there's none of that. As you can tell I'm not too sharp on small engine operation.

you looked down near the clamp at the carburetor?

governors are internal to the motor, they force the engine to idle. the large spring attached to them forces them to open the throttle. it will be a shaft coming out of the motor.

make sure you move the throttle and watch it move the throttle linkage. lots of time you don't see it till the engine is hot

I took the hood off and cover over flywheel off so I could see everything. Blew out a few pounds of dirt. Everything seems to be fine as far as I can tell. I gave it a good dose of seafoam and sprayed some carb cleaner through it. It's working fine now. Go figure! I'm not very confident that it's permanently fixed, if not I'll repost. Thanks for the help.
