Cruise control problem 2650

Just bought this little baby! Just getting to know it blowing snow and using the fel. It's a 2013 with 1200 hrs. My question is with the cruse control. When I try and set the speed but the leaver won't lock in unless I put my hand down the slot and manually push the locking plate in. Does anyone have any experience with this mechanism?

I'm not sure what you mean by put "your hand down the slot and manually push the locking plate" I've only used mine a few times just to try it out but I have the tractor at a speed I want and push down on the little stick in the center next to the parking break and it kinda holds the speed. I say kinda because if I'm floored on the go pedal it doesn't hold it all the way there and the tractor slows down a little. I think it just locks in one position so you don't have to have your foot there the whole time. Not like a car where you can adjust the speed if that makes any sense.

I too am confused by your hand down the slot verbiage but I can explain how they are supposed to work. The cruise control lever is linked flat piece of metal that has several notches in it. When the accelarator pedal is pressed down you can push down on the cruise control lever and it will engage into the closest notch. You can disengage buy pressing the accelarator or brake pedal. It is not an infinite system like a car/truck but it works pretty well. This flat metal piece can be seen from the left side (opposite the treadle pedal) just under the floor board.
There are some springs in the system that might be loose or missing which might affect operation. The other possibility is that the piece of metal with the notches might be bent a bit giving you trouble as well.
